...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected.

* WHERE...The ocean beaches of New York City, Nassau, and western
  Suffolk Counties.

* WHEN...From late this afternoon through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all
  people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches
  should stay out of the surf. Rip currents can sweep even the
  best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The rip current risk will be moderate for
  much of the day today, then increase to high late in the
  day as onshore winds increase to 20 to 25 mph and surf heights
  build to 3 to 4 feet. The high risk may continue into part of
  Tuesday morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you enter the surf zone, always have a flotation device with
you and swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax
and float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in
a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face
the shore and yell or wave for help.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Always obey posted Beach Flags. If you enter the surf zone,
always have a floatation device with you and swim near a
lifeguard if possible. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float and do not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel
to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.
