.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- Strong, gusty, south winds around Grangeville on Wednesday.

- More mountain snow Wednesday into Thursday, especially along
   the Montana/Idaho border.

- Friday disturbance could bring snow to Lemhi county into
   southwest Montana.

Scattered to numerous showers continue to move across the Northern
Rockies this afternoon with the coverage and intensity diminishing
after sunset. Also with this relatively unstable atmosphere this
afternoon, gusty southwest winds are mixing down to the valley
surfaces.

Another disturbance will bring another round of widespread
precipitation with snow being mainly confined to the higher
terrain and a rain/snow mix in the valleys. The heaviest
precipitation is expected along the Montana/Idaho border,
especially around Lookout Pass Wednesday afternoon through
Thursday morning. 75% of the models are showing at least 5 inches
at Lookout and 2 inches at Lolo & Marias passes. On the higher end
(25% of models) is giving Lookout pass 10 inches, 3 inches at
Lolo pass and 5 inches at Marias pass.

Also this disturbance will cause gusty south winds across the
Camas Prairie in Idaho around Grangeville on Wednesday. Highway 95
from Whitebird grade to Cottonwood has a 60% chance of
experiencing a wind gusts in excess of 50 mph.

A transitory ridge appears to slide over the Northern Rockies
Thursday night into Friday allowing for the decrease in shower
activity. Late Friday into Saturday around 50% of the models are
showing a mid level circulation moving up through southeast Idaho
into central Montana. The path of this system will bring snow to
Lemhi county into southwest Montana Friday night into Saturday.
The path of this disturbance will have a significant impact on
the placement of the snow.

This active weather pattern is forecasted to last into the first
part of next week.

&&

.AVIATION...Gusty southwest winds and scattered showers will
continue to impact the Northern Rockies the remainder of this
afternoon into the early evening. The winds and showers are
anticipated to diminish after sunset. These showers will be
primarily made up of snow, causing periods of reduced
visibilities and obscured mountain terrain. Another disturbance is
expected to impact the Northern Rockies by Wednesday afternoon.
