.DISCUSSION...
Sprinkles along the MT/ND border are dissipating/moving east of
the CWA as of 815 pm MT. Clearing over the western zones will
spread east tonight. A slight increase in W-NW winds will allow
for modest cooling tonight with morning lows still be above their
respective normals. TFJ
KEY MESSAGES:
- Light rain/sprinkles associated with a cool front are exiting
the CWA this evening.
- Above normal temperatures and mostly dry conditions will
persist from Wednesday through Friday.
- Beginning Friday night, another cold front will bring a pattern
change with a chance for accumulating mixed precip. Totals are
still uncertain.
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
Gusty NW winds in excess of 35 mph today are verifying the Lake
Wind Advisory. After 5 pm this afternoon, winds are expected to
diminish back down below 15 mph. The associated precipitation is
light. Our southern CWA locations may accumulate a bit of rain,
while the rest of our CWA can expect only a passing sprinkle or
two. Tonight the precipitation will erode away toward the east.
Wednesday through Friday: Another rebounding shortwave ridge on
will keep temperatures above normal with highs mainly in the 50s
and dry weather. The one exception being a quick-passing embedded
disturbance on Thursday, which should only skirt along our border
with Saskatchewan.
Friday evening through Saturday night:
A more organized low pressure system will slide into the Rocky
Mountain region and push some precipitation through NE Montana.
Most of it will be a rain event, but a few higher elevations may
see some snowflakes mix in. Current rainfall totals look to be
around 0.10 to 0.15 inch in most areas. Probability currently
between 40 and 60 percent. The precipitation chances diminish by
Saturday night with clearing from the west on Sunday. Snow
amounts look for be minimal at this time with less than a 20
percent chance of an inch of snow in almost all areas.
Models and ensembles have significant differences with the
forecast early next week at this time.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:
Confidence is high on the mild and dry weather Wednesday through
Friday.
Confidence is moderate to high on the rain/snow mix Friday night
and Saturday but low on precipitation amounts.
