Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Glasgow MT

.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGES:
- Temperature continues to swing with an unsettled weather
pattern over the next week.
- A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect this morning.
- Another weak system moves through tonight bringing an inch or
less of snow. Several systems with mixed precipitation are
expected Monday night and beyond with low confidence in
precipitation type at this time.
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
Snow is currently spreading into northeast Montana early this
morning. The snow will continue across the forecast area in
varying degrees this morning and diminish from west to east in the
late morning to early afternoon. Current models and ensembles have
slightly lower snow forecast for this morning with 1 to 3 inches.
East to NE winds are currently stronger than earlier forecasted
and any snow that occurs this morning will blow and drift which
supports maintaining the Winter Weather Advisory for this morning
and expanding it into Sheridan and Eastern Roosevelt Counties.
Another wave of light snow is expected to move through on tonight
into Sunday as another shortwave trough passes through the
region. Tonight will be a cold night with lows below zero in the
northeast half of the forecast area. Warm air moves back northeast
on Sunday and most areas will have highs above freezing on Monday.
A shortwave trough on NW flow aloft will bring a mixed
precipitation event Monday night and Tuesday with chances for
rain, freezing rain, and snow along a quasi-stationary front that
will be over or just north of the forecast area Monday and
Tuesday.
This front is expected to drift south Tuesday night and Wednesday
and remain south of the forecast area the remainder of the week with
frequent chances for snow.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:
Increased PoP manually at times today and tonight to provide a
more consistent forecast and better match neighboring offices.
There is high confidence of accumulating snow occurring this
morning with 1 to 2 inches in most areas. Lower confidence in
whether or not snow amounts will exceed 2 inches in any areas
today. There is moderate confidence that there will be a period of
light snow tonight with up to an inch of additional accumulation.
High confidence in warmer temperatures Sunday and Monday with
lower confidence in specific temperatures.

.AVIATION...
LAST UPDATED: 0930Z
FLIGHT CAT: A mix of MVFR/IFR/LIFR today and tonight.
DISCUSSION: Snow with areas of blowing snow this morning will
bring low ceilings and variable visibilities that will cause
flight categories to vary from MVFR to IFR to LIFR. Ceilings will
drop to IFR after 04z with the snow moving in after 09z. The snow
will end from west to east in the late morning or early afternoon,
with MVFR ceiling prevailing this afternoon. Snow will move east
across the region tonight with a mix of IFR and MVFR conditions
expected.
WINDS: East to NE winds this morning between 10 and 25 knots that
will diminish to NE 5 to 10 knots this afternoon. East to NE winds
5 to 10 knots are expected tonight.
