Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Dry conditions will continue through the end of the week for
southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California.

* Today will be the coolest day of the week, with temperatures
  gradually rebounding throughout the week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through next weekend.

As the trough responsible for yesterday`s winds lifts into the
Northern Rockies a shortwave will slip in behind it, reinforcing the
general troughiness across the Southwestern US. As a result of
this synoptic setup, we will continue to find ourselves under dry
southwesterly flow aloft with dry conditions expected to continue
through the end of the week. While we will continue to see
afternoon relative humidity values bottom out in the single digits
and lower teens, winds will not be as strong, which will help to
mitigate fire danger.

Today`s high temperatures across the region will be around 10+
degrees cooler than normal. Temperatures will gradually climb
back up to near normal by mid week as 500 mb heights increase
thanks to a ridge trying to push into the area. Warmer than normal
temperatures will return to the region during the second half of
the week, resulting in increasing HeatRisk as we head into the
weekend. Widespread Moderate (Level 2 of 4) HeatRisk is expected
across southern Nevada, southeastern California, and northwestern
Arizona over the weekend. This level of heat will impact anyone
without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration as well as
heat sensitive individuals and those that have not acclimated to
these temperatures.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Gusty
northwest winds with a few gusts to 30 knots are expected through
14Z, then decreasing to less than 12 knots by late morning as they
gradually veer around to the northeast. Winds are then expected to
remain less than 8 knots through the afternoon as directions
continue to veer around to the southeast and eventually southwest by
sunset. Typical southwest drainage winds are expected after sunset
into Monday morning. No operationally significant cloud cover is
forecast, although smoke from wildfires north of the region may
result in murky skies at times.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Conditions at the Las
Vegas area TAF sites will be similar to those described above for
Harry Reid. Elsewhere across the region, breezy northerly winds
this morning are expected to diminish by afternoon. A more typical
diurnal wind pattern will then reestablish itself by this evening,
with most sites expecting winds to remain 12 knots or less overnight
into Monday. No operationally significant cloud cover is forecast,
although smoke from wildfires north of the region may result in
murky skies at times, especially in the Owens Valley and areas north
of the Las Vegas Valley.

&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
