Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
502 AM PDT Fri Jun 13 2025

.SYNOPSIS...Temperatures will gradually increase through the
remainder of the work week into the weekend, peaking on Sunday. An
Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for lower elevations of
southeastern California, southern Nevada, and northwestern Arizona.
Meanwhile, expect breezy-to-gusty southwesterly winds each afternoon
through the forecast period.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Today through Thursday.

A building area of high pressure over the southeastern Pacific Ocean
will increase heights across the Desert Southwest, resulting in
increasing temperatures each day through the remainder of the work
week into the weekend. Temperatures will peak on Sunday at 8 to 12
degrees above seasonal normals, with a forecast temperature of 108
for Las Vegas. "Major" HeatRisk is spreading across desert valley
locations of our forecast area. The NBM deterministic high
temperatures are around the 25th percentile, with the bulk of the
ensemble indicating that temperatures will be a degree or two
hotter, which would further increase the spatial coverage of Major
HeatRisk. Given that Sunday is Father`s Day, so people are more
likely to spend time outside this weekend, went ahead and issued an
Extreme Heat Warning for valley locations of southeastern
California, southern Nevada, and northwestern Arizona on Sunday.
This includes Death Valley National Park, western San Bernardino
County, far southern Nye County, lower elevations of Clark County
including Las Vegas, southern Mohave County, and the Colorado River
Valley including the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. If planning
to spend time outdoors this weekend, avoid the hottest parts of the
day, bring plenty of water, and wear sunscreen.

Meanwhile, a dry southwesterly flow aloft continues, as a closed
area of low pressure meanders slowly southward out of the Gulf of
Alaska and a growing ridge of high pressure builds across the
southwestern United States. As such, expect breezy southwest winds
each afternoon through the remainder of the week and into the
weekend. This will result in increased fire concerns across the
forecast area, so be aware of this if recreating outside with sparks
or flames.

Early next week, a shortwave will move through the flow aloft, which
will increase gusty winds on Monday. Greatest chances for speeds
over 40 mph exist in western San Bernardino (30-50%), with most
locations remaining sub-advisory. This shortwave will drop
temperatures 4 to 6 degrees through Tuesday before the ridge sets
back up and increases temperatures through the remainder of the work
week.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast
Package...Similar to previous days, gusty south-southwesterly
winds remain the primary aviation concern. Gusts to 20-25KT will
be intermittent this morning, becoming more prevalent this
afternoon as winds veer southwesterly. Gusty winds then persist
overnight, backing to the south. Otherwise, VFR conditions will
prevail with high clouds that are not expected to impact
operations. Temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 100
degrees between 21Z-03Z, peaking at 103 degrees around 00Z.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Gusty southwesterly
winds are the primary aviation concern across the region, with
widespread gusts to 20-25KT expected late this morning through
this evening. The exception will be across the Western Mojave
Desert, including KDAG, where winds this morning will gust to
30-35KT, diminishing briefly, with gusts to 25-30KT returning this
afternoon onward. VFR conditions will prevail, with passing high
clouds with bases around 25kft.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
