Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
134 AM PDT Thu Jul 10 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
* Hot and dry conditions will likely continue through the
weekend and into early next week as ridging persists across the
region.
&&
.DISCUSSION...Today through the Middle of Next Week.
Ridging will remain generally over the area through the forecast
period, though the exact placement and intensity of the ridge will
vary at times. Through the weekend, long range ensembles are in
decent agreement that the area of high pressure will remain
somewhere over southern California. Slightly above normal height
anomalies will remain over the region through Saturday which will
result in above normal temperatures, light winds, and mostly sunny
skies. Sunday through early Tuesday, ensembles show the ridge
building eastward which will raise temperatures a few degrees. This
should be the hottest time period with high temperatures 5-8 degrees
above normal and Major (level 3 to 4) HeatRisk possible in desert
valley locations in Southern California and Southern Nevada on
Monday and Tuesday. After Tuesday, heights fall slightly as the
ridge potentially interacts with an easterly wave. This wave will
knock back temperatures a few degrees but will likely remain above
normal. In addition, if this wave is able to push far enough
westward, increasing moisture is possible through southern Nevada
and western Arizona. There is a low chance for precipitation Tuesday
afternoon but low confidence if rain will occur and what impacts may
result.
&&
.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...The main
concern will be a wind shift to northerly Thursday morning, with
gusts of 15 to 20 knots for a few hours before winds settle down
around noon. Winds should return to the typical nighttime southwest
direction in the evening. VFR conditions will prevail through the
forecast period with only a FEW clouds with bases AOA 15kft AGL
expected. Temperatures will exceed 100F between 17Z and 05Z on
Thursday.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...The main concern will be
a wind shift to northerly which was working its way southward
through the southern Great Basin this evening and will make it
through the northern Mojave Desert Thursday morning before washing
out. Northerly gusts around 20 knots can be expected Thursday
morning in areas prone to northerly winds before the winds settle
down in the late morning to early afternoon. VFR conditions will
prevail through the forecast period.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
