.UPDATE...
&&
&&
.KEY MESSAGES...
1. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the San Joaquin
Valley, the West Side Hills and the Sierra Nevada foothills from
11 AM through 11 PM Thursday. This is due to expected winds of
15 to 20 mph, gusting up to 25 to 35 mph, and minimum relative
humidities of 5 to 15% in the afternoon.
2. Above average temperatures continue today and will warm
through the week. Moderate Heat Risk is expected on Wednesday
across the San Joaquin Valley on Wednesday.
3. There is a 50 to 80 percent chance for wind gusts greater
than 50 mph in the Mojave Desert Slopes on Thursday.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Zonal flow with slight ridging continues to influence the
region, with temperatures rising into the mid 90`s in the San
Joaquin Valley by Wednesday, and winds continuing to be
slightly elevated in the afternoons. A small trough is expected
to come into Northern California on Thursday, which will cause
increased winds for Central California. The Mojave Desert
Slopes are likely to see strong winds again on that day, with
chances for 50 mph gusts at 50 to 80 percent.
Another trough is expected to come through the region Friday,
with this one crossing the whole of Central California rather
than Northern California. This trough is expected to bring
slightly cooler temperatures that are closer to normal.
Something to keep in mind that even though we may still see
troughs drop down from the north, as the seasons transition
into summer, those trough will be weaker than ones seen in the
winter, so their effects on temperature and moisture will be
lessened while retaining their ability to cause elevated winds.
Moving into the weekend, temperatures are expected to be fairly
steady, with a slight warm up on Sunday due to a small ridge
that will quickly pass through the region before highs come down
again on Monday.
&&
.AVIATION...
00Z Update:
VFR conditions will prevail for the next 24 hours across the
Central California Interior.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the San Joaquin Valley,
the West Side Hills and the Sierra Nevada Foothills due to
increased winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts of 25 to 35 mph, as
well as minimum relative humidities of 5 to 15 percent in the
afternoon. This Watch is valid from 11 AM through 11 PM on
Thursday, May 22nd.
A small trough passing through Northern California on Thursday
will lead to these increased winds, and the dry air from these
winds will lead to decreasing RH`s in the afternoon. RH recovery
will be fair in the Valley and Foothills with values of 45 to 55
percent overnight. The West Side Hills may see a weaker recovery
with maximum RH values of 30 to 40 percent.
