.DISCUSSION...Upper ridge cantered off the CA coast near 130W
maintaining a northwest flow aloft. WV imagery indicating some
upper level moisture streaming over central CA from the NW
providing our area with some high clouds. The northwest flow
aloft has also provided for enough mixing to inhibit widespread
dense fog from developing in the San Joaquin Valley. Fog
coverage was limited this morning to a narrow strip from near
Atwater southward to near Visalia in the proximity of the SR 99
corridor that developed around sunrise then rapidly dissipated
and was mixed out by 900 am and giving way to a fair weather
day across our area with just the aforementioned high clouds
streaming overhead and temperatures generally running 1 to 2 DEG
F above yday at this time.
SREF is showing the ridge shifting inland into CA tonight and
Thursday then east into the Desert southwest region Thursday
night and Friday. The more pronounced ridging will result in
fewer high clouds for our area tonight. With mainly clear
skies, light winds and lingering low level moisture that last
week`s storms brought to the San Joaquin Valley, areas of dense
fog are possible tonight and Thursday morning. The PoE for
visibility below a quarter mile along the SR 99 corridor on
Thursday morning from Merced to Delano is between 30 and 60
percent. Other than the presence of morning fog and stratus in
the San Joaquin Valley, mostly sunny skies will prevail over the
higher elevations as the ridge will be the predominant feature.
As the ridge shifts further inland on Thursday night and
Friday, an upper trough will approach the Norcal coast and move
through the state on Friday night. This system will bring
chances for some light precipitation to our area between
Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. The PoE for 0.10 inches
or more of rainfall is 25 to 40 percent in Merced County, 10 to
30 percent south of Merced County to the SR 198 corridor and 10
percent or less south of the SR 198 corridor. NBM continues to
show the snow level around 7000 feet on Friday afternoon then
lowering to 5000 to 6000 feet by the time the precipitation
tapers off on Saturday morning. The PoE for two inches of snow
more more above 7000 feet is around 45 percent in Yosemite
National Park and 10 percent in Kings Canyon National Park.
The probability for four inches of snow in Yosemite NP continues
to run near 25 percent and for six inches of snow it is near
15 percent. This trough will move east of our area by Satruday
night with another upper ridge building off the CA coast by
Sunday.
Ensemble means are showing the ridge amplifying just off the CA
coast early next week keeping a dry northerly flow over CA which
will maintain dry weather across our area with near seasonable
temperatures. The pronounced northerly flow pattern is
unfavorable for widespread dense fog in the San Joaquin Valley,
but patchy fog during the morning hours will remain possible
each day.

.AVIATION...00Z Update.
