Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1211 PM PDT Sun Apr 20 2025
.SYNOPSIS...Temperatures will continue to rise over the next few
days with highs reaching their peak on Tuesday. A system arriving
mid week will bring a decrease in temperatures and increase in wind
toward the end of the week.
&&
.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday.
A building upper level ridge over the eastern Pacific Ocean is
leading to rising heights over the western United States, which in
response will result in increasing surface temperatures through
Tuesday. High temperatures on Tuesday will be 5 to 10 degrees above
average for this time of year. For Las Vegas, this means highs in
the upper 80s. A weak shortwave will move through the area, but this
should result in little change to conditions other than some high
cloud cover. Winds follow their typical daily patterns and no
precipitation is expected.
.LONG TERM...Wednesday through next Sunday.
Midweek, a series of shortwaves will move through our zonal flow
aloft, which will slow down the rapid early-week warm up across the
region. In addition to pausing the warm up, these shortwaves will
bring periods of cloudy skies to the region and will increase south-
southwesterly winds across the forecast area each afternoon through
the work week.
Extended forecast details remain murky regarding a low pressure
system pushing into the Pacific Northwest next weekend. Details such
as strength, timing, moisture content, and trajectory remain unclear
at this time, but will become more clear with subsequent forecast
packages. Potential impacts will include gusty winds, a drop in
temperatures, and a return of precipitation chances.
&&
.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast
Package...In general, expect typical wind patterns for all Las Vegas
valley TAF sites today through Monday. Light winds will become east
early this afternoon and continue through the early evening before
become south between 01Z-03Z tonight. There is a low chance (10%)
for wind speeds over 8KT 22Z-02Z at LAS, but in general winds will
remain under 8KT through Monday morning. KHND has the best chance
for elevated wind speeds as south-southeast winds at 8-10KT are
expected around 00Z this evening for a few hours. South winds will
persist overnight then become light and variable early Monday
morning. Similar wind directions and speeds that occur today are
expected Monday afternoon, though there is a slightly higher chance
(20%) for east or southeast wind speeds over 8KT after 22Z Monday
afternoon. Clouds will increase this afternoon at or above 20kft.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Light winds following
typical wind patterns are expected across the region for much of the
TAF period. KBIH has a 40% chance for southeast wind speeds over
10KT this afternoon, mainly between 22Z-02Z before winds decrease
and become north or northwest this evening. East winds at 8-10KT
will flip to the west at KDAG between 00Z-03Z. Increase clouds are
expected at 20kft-25kft, but operationally significant weather or
CIGs are not expected through Monday morning.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
