Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Francisco CA
114 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

...New SYNOPSIS, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 109 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

Cooler temperatures continue tonight, but warmer and drier
conditions begin on Sunday and continue into early next week.
Close to normal temperatures return midweek.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Sunday)
Issued at 109 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

Mostly clear skies leading into the night with pretty light to
moderate winds, as the trough begins to depart to the east making
room for a weak ridge to build. There is a chance for some patchy
low clouds or fog development overnight near Monterey Bay and North
Bay (especially near Napa), but after the early morning hours, clear
skies will return. With the ridging pattern, there will be moments
of offshore winds, which will help facilitate some warmer
temperatures and drier conditions on Sunday. Minimum temperatures
overnight will gradually increase but will remain mostly in the
40s but the noticeable temperature increase will be Sunday. Max
temperatures will rise about 5-15 degrees above normal for the
next couple of days, with inland areas seeing values in the mid
70s to low 80s and coastal areas will see mostly 60s to low 70s on
Sunday. With the uptick in temperatures for Sunday and Monday,
most of inland region is highlighted for minor HeatRisk, for those
who are extremely sensitive to heat.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through next Friday)
Issued at 109 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

Dry and warm conditions continue into Monday with a slight uptick in
max temperatures compared to Sunday. Clusters continue to show
agreement of the upper level low forming off the coast of southern
CA on Tuesday allowing for temperatures to gradually decrease to
values that reflect normal seasonal temperatures, especially inland.
With the low pressure forming, there is a chance for increase cloud
cover which will also help temperatures to moderate. Although the
NBM shows less than 10% chance for precipitation over our area on
Wednesday, expect dry conditions to continue through the week as
of now. Models also show another pattern change Friday where
another ridging pattern can possibly bring another weekend of
warmer temperatures. Stay tuned!

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1040 AM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

High confidence for VFR conditions to prevail through the remainder
of the day with an increase of onshore winds by this afternoon,
albeit weaker than yesterday. Wind speeds become light and variable
overnight and into early Sunday. Probability of MVFR ceilings will be
greatest over the Monterey Bay Terminals early Sunday morning.

Vicinity of SFO...VFR. Wind speeds increase this afternoon with
gusts up to 25 knots before easing late this evening and
into Sunday morning. Onshore winds increase again Sunday afternoon.

SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.

Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR. Onshore winds of 10-12 knots will
prevail through this evening before easing and becoming variable
into Sunday morning. There is the potential for MVFR ceilings to
develop late in the night/early Sunday, however generally about a
50/50 chance of them developing.

&&

.MARINE...
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 901 AM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

A fresh to strong northwesterly breeze persists over the waters
with gusts to gale force over the outer waters north of Pigeon
Point. Northwesterly swell will build 10 to 12 feet at 10 to 11
seconds with moderate seas expected. Winds begin to diminish and
seas subside through Sunday and will persist into midweek.
