Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Medford OR
636 PM PDT Wed May 28 2025

.DISCUSSION...Satellite and radar image shows isolated showers and
storms mainly in far eastern Klamath and western Lake County.
Isolated showers and storms have since diminished in the last few
hours and they should be a done deal in the next 2-3 hours. The
forecast for this evening has been updated to keep the isolated
thunderstorms in the areas mentioned above. Later this evening
into tonight it will be dry.

Gusty breezes are still in play in the Rogue and Shasta Valley and
portions of the eastside. The winds will also trend down in the
next couple of hours.

A front will reach the coast Thursday morning, but it will be
weakening as it does so, and if any precipitation were to occur
it will be confined to the coast, north of Cape Blanco and
northwest Douglas County Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon will
be dry with gusty breezes for most locations in the afternoon and
early evening hours. -Petrucelli

.AVIATION...29/00Z TAFs...Conditions are VFR early this evening,
though with gusty low level winds inland and also isolated
thunderstorms across Lake and Modoc counties.

A weak front is approaching the coast. It will bring the return to
coastal MVFR ceilings after 03Z. Rain is likely after 08Z, and
conditions could fall further into IFR late tonight into Thursday
morning. The probability of rain will be highest from Gold Beach
northward.

Inland, expect mainly VFR into Thursday evening. Early morning MVFR
is possible in central Douglas County. -DW

.MARINE...Updated 200 PM Wednesday, May 28, 2025...Relatively
calm conditions are expected through tonight. Westerly swell will
increase tonight into Thursday.

Winds will become northerly on Thursday then start to increase late
Thursday into Thursday night under a thermal trough pattern. Steep
seas are expected to develop south of Cape Blanco Thursday evening
and night, then expand north of Cape Blanco Thursday night into
Friday. Locally, very steep seas are possible south of Cape Blanco
Thursday night and Friday.

Then, as north winds increase further on the weekend, steep to very
steep and hazardous seas are possible across the waters with the
strongest winds and steepest seas expected south of Cape Blanco.
Current guidance indicates periods of gales south of Gold Beach in
this timeframe. Winds may lower slightly on Monday but steep to very
steep seas may persist. -CC/Hermansen
