Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Phoenix AZ
1230 PM MST Sun Apr 20 2025

.SYNOPSIS...
Seasonably dry and tranquil conditions will prevail
through much of the upcoming work week. Temperatures will warm to
near normal levels today and then warm to slightly above normal
levels throughout the week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
In the wake of a storm system that impacted the region the last
couple of days, a benign weather pattern has settled in with flat
ridging encompassing most of the Desert Southwest currently. As a
result of this flat ridging, high temperatures this afternoon will
be noticeably warmer as readings top out in the middle to upper 80s
across the lower deserts, which is near the seasonal norm for this
time of the year. Temperatures will warm even further to slightly
above normal levels on Monday as highs top out in the upper 80s to
lower 90s. Temperatures will remain steady-state through the
remainder of the work week as a quasi-zonal flow pattern settles
across much of the Desert Southwest with very little change in the
upper-level pattern.

Global models continue to be consistent in advertising another
trough moving in from the eastern Pacific into the western CONUS
heading into next weekend leading to some cooler temperatures.
However, after examination of the ensemble clusters, there
continues to be a significant spread on the overall depth and
trajectory of this troughing feature as it moves into the western
CONUS. This uncertainty in the overall depth and trajectory is
leading to a significant spread in the NBM inter-quartile high
temperature distribution for next weekend with a 7-10 degree
difference noted. Depending on the overall depth and trajectory of
the trough, a tightening in the regional pressure gradient
leading to increasing winds would materialize as well.

.AVIATION...Updated at 1720Z.

South Central Arizona including KPHX, KIWA, KSDL, KDVT and
Southeast California/Southwest Arizona including KIPL and KBLH:

No aviation concerns are expected during the TAF period. Winds
will follow typical light and diurnal trends with windows of
variability. Clear skies will give way to increasing high cirrus
by this evening and tonight.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
Dry and tranquil weather conditions will persist through the
upcoming week along with slightly above normal temperatures.
MinRH values each day will bottom out near 10% areawide with poor
to fair overnight recoveries. Fairly light and diurnally driven
winds are expected through at least midweek, with some afternoon
upslope breeziness. Winds are likely to increase somewhat by the
end of the week into next weekend as an upper-level low pressure
system moves into the western United States.
