AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Eureka CA
256 PM PDT Sun Apr 6 2025

.SYNOPSIS...Rain returns to continue today as a quick
moving system moves through. Showers on Monday morning. light rain
focused on Del Norte and No. Humboldt Counties Tuesday. Warm, dry
inland conditions Wednesday and Thursday. Light rain returning to
Del Norte and No. Humboldt Counties late in the week.

.DISCUSSION...

Key Messages: Rain today until Monday early afternoon Monday.
Rain fall amounts expected to be around 2-3" in Del Norte Co.,
0.5-1.25" in Humboldt Co., <0.5" expected in Trinity and Mendocino
Co., and Lake Co. with less than 0.1". Minimal Snow impacts are
expected, with a dusting of snow possible at Scott Mtn Pass.

Showers with light rain expected Tuesday in Del Norte Co.

Warm inland temperatures Wednesday. Inland valleys could see max
values of between 75-80F.

Weather Pattern Overview: A quick moving, relative weak cold front
due to a low pressure center in the Gulf of Alaska will pass over
our area today. In the wake of this front, cool air will follow
bring snow levels down to ~4,000ft elevation. A shortwave
disturbance will bring light showers on Tuesday. Weak ridging will
build in Wednesday allowing inland high temperatures to build. Rain
is suspected to return late in the week as another low pressure
is forecasted to impact the PacNW.

Forecast Confidence & Deviations: Confidence is high for rain
arriving today. Hi-Res composite reflectivity models show rain
showers ending around early afternoon tomorrow. After a calm
night, very light rain will return Tuesday with NBM showing ~50%
probability of 0.1" of rainfall during the day. Warmer
temperatures will arrive midweek with almost all inland valleys
showing at least an 80% probability of temperatures exceeding 75F
for Wednesday and Thursday.

&&

.AVIATION...A front crossing the area has so far brought rain all
along the coast alongside some moderately gusty south wind. Rain has
helped generate periods of MVFR conditions but ceilings have so far
remaining elevated above 3 kft. There is strong model signal (70%
chance) that ceilings will at least sporadically drop this evening
with periods of IFR conditions, but the trend is likely to be
inconsistent. More instability will move on early Monday, allowing
for continued showers but also producing variable ceilings and
visibilities between VFR and IFR. /JHW

&&

.MARINE...A front has crossed the waters during the day today
bringing gusts in outer waters generally around 25 kts. SHort
period seas have built near 6 feet but wind shave generally been
to short lived to build much higher. That said, a long period
westerly swell has built in excess of 10 feet generating steep
seas regardless of the short period waves. SOutherly wind gusts
will generally decrease overnight. Another couple of weak fronts
will pass the area during the day Monday and Tuesday, but
southerly wind gusts over 21 kts will most likely be largely
restricted to the northern waters. The steep swell will gradually
decrease, most likely falling below 10 feet during the day Monday.
