Updated at 517 PM CST Sun Feb 22 2026

- Above normal temperatures and mostly dry weather returns next
week.
- Elevated fire weather concerns develop Tuesday with the return
of warm weather and gusty south to southwest winds.

.SHORT TERM...
(Through tonight)
Issued at 1120 AM CST Sun Feb 22 2026
Cool and breezy conditions continue today in the wake of an
exiting shortwave dropping into the southeast CONUS. Northerly
winds will continue to usher a drier airmass into the region
through the afternoon. The breezy conditions combined with the dry
air will result in limited fire weather conditions for a few hours
this afternoon before winds begin to subside toward sunset. Highs
will generally be in the mid to upper 40s with some lower 50s
possible across the south.
Surface high pressure will settle over the region this evening,
allowing winds calm with continues clear skies. The result will
be the coldest temperatures overnight into Monday morning with
lows in the teens and 20s across the region.

.LONG TERM...
(Tomorrow through Sunday)
Issued at 1120 AM CST Sun Feb 22 2026
The surface high will slowly shift eastward during the day Monday,
leading to generally light winds through the day with seasonably
cool highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s. South to Southwesterly
winds return by Monday evening and become gusty again by Tuesday
morning. Gusts of 25 to 35 mph will be common Tuesday afternoon.
Much warmer temperatures will be the result on Tuesday as highs
rebound back into the upper 60s to 70s. Moisture will be slow to
return to the area as well, meaning another day of elevated fire
weather concerns Tuesday afternoon.
Fire concerns ease a bit on Wednesday as a surface boundary sets
up across the region allowing winds to relax along with an
increase in surface moisture. A mid-level shortwave is progged to
drop southeast through the Plains Wednesday night into Thursday
which will bring some low rain chances, primarily to northeast
Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Rain amounts look light if
anything unfortunately. Warm and dry conditions continue to round
out the week into the weekend with fire weather concerns remaining
due to lack of appreciable rainfall. A stronger front could be in
the offing for next weekend sometime, though guidance still
remains highly divergent in solutions regarding the evolution of
this system.
