.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1251 AM CDT Mon Mar 16 2026
Most precip activity has moved east of the state early this Mon
morning. However...some lingering moisture across NRN sections was
resulting in some flurries. SFC pressure gradient remains tight over
the region...resulting in the windy conditions. There have been some
observed non-thunderstorm wind gusts over 50 mph at times earlier on
Sun evening. Expect the windy conditions to persist through the
morning hrs...with winds slowly relaxing later in the morning and
into the afternoon hrs. Keep the Wind Adv in place through around
sunrise.
These winds combined with the cold air filtering into the state
will result in wind chill values in the single digits and teens this
morning for most areas. Lows by just after sunrise will also dip
into the upper teens to low 30s. The Freeze Warning remains in
effect through this morning. Temps this afternoon will only warm
into the low 30s to mid 40s. Winds will become light/variable by
tonight into Tue morning. Lows area-wide will be below freezing for
all of the CWA. Have posted another Freeze Warning for tonight/Tue
morning.
Very dry air will filter into the state for Mon afternoon...and with
winds remaining elevated...the wild fire threat will increase
significantly. Will see near critical levels regarding winds...but as
the winds relax...that is when the lowest RH values below 25 percent
will be seen later this afternoon. Temps will remain well below
normal...which should help things keep from getting too aggressive
wild fire wise. Another very dry day will be seen for Tue as
well...but winds will be much lower.
Upper level high pressure will move closer to the region later this
week into the weekend. Temps will warm well above normal. Some areas
will see highs in the 80s...and there are some indications that a
few areas could approach 90 by Sat. Precip chances will also remain
low.
