.KEY MESSAGES...

* Showers and isolated thunderstorms continue through Saturday
afternoon, followed by dry weather Sunday into next week.

* A warming trend will return temperatures to seasonal averages
this weekend before becoming above normal much of next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...

A band of remnant showers originating from yesterday`s thunderstorm
activity in Oregon and Idaho is being directed into northern
California as noted on early morning radar. This band should mostly
stay west of the Sierra with light rain sneaking into E Modoc and
Lassen counties. Shower coverage will extend eastward into NW
Nevada as the morning progresses, providing light rain to areas
north of Reno. Shower activity decreases in the afternoon and
becomes more spotty. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible in a
couple areas this afternoon: 1) far eastern portions of Pershing
and Churchill counties (15-20% odds), and 2) near the Oregon
border (15% odds or less). Showers and thunderstorms return
Saturday afternoon, but will continue to be isolated and confined
to far NE California and near the Oregon border. A few higher
resolution guidance sources leave open the potential for a couple
of storms popping up in the Reno-Tahoe region or west central NV,
but confidence is lower for storm activity extending this far
south.

While it won`t be too noticeable today, temperatures will warm to
some extent each day through the middle of next week as our stubborn
low pressure finally departs to the east. Today`s highs will only be
a few degrees warmer compared to yesterday, but will return to the
mid-upper 60s and 70s over the weekend. Nighttime lows will also
gradually warm, but will remain chilly in colder Sierra valleys into
the weekend as temperatures fall to near freezing. Additional
warming is expected through midweek, when highs will be flirting
with 80F and 90F for Sierra communities and lower NE CA/W NV
valleys, respectively. These daytime highs will support a
widespread minor (1 out of 4) HeatRisk with moderate (2 out of 4)
HeatRisk developing in lowest W Nevada valleys Wednesday and
Thursday. Make plans accordingly, and be sure to practice your
heat safety precautions if your plans do take you outside this
upcoming week!

.AVIATION...

Isolated showers are expected through the afternoon, resulting in
periods of mountain obscuration and CIGS/VIS reductions. Showers and
thunderstorms return Saturday afternoon, but even the best chances
are only 10-20% and will favor KTRK-KRNO-KCXP-KMEV. Showers may
develop south of these terminals (i.e. KTVL-KMMH) but odds are 10%
or less.
