.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure crosses the area tonight, exiting early tomorrow
morning. High pressure builds in on Wednesday into Thursday. Low
pressure approaches from the south on Friday, crossing the
region through the weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
10 PM Update: A low pressure system currently sits over western
Maine, with a weak warm front lifted north through the St. John
Valley and a weak cold front draped through the Central
Highlands into the greater Bangor area, leaving Washington
county up into southern Aroostook county in a weak warm sector.
This shortwave will continue to push eastwards, and the forcing
along each front will push eastwards as well. Greater forcing is
expected along the front based on the mesoscale characteristics
of such a feature, which could lead to another few inches of
snowfall before the front leaves the area. Precip will be
lighter in association with the warm front, though a couple of
inches of snowfall may occur across the Crown of Maine in the
weaker but longer persisting setup as the low tracks parallel to
the warm/stationary front. Showers continue across the north in
the weak forcing, and across the warm sector, though often
mixing with rain, especially closer to the coast.

Previous Discussion:
Low pressure continues to develop across the region with snow
currently falling across much of Central Maine, a mix of snow
and rain along the Interior Downeast, and rain along the coast.
Current observations and the latest high resolution guidance
continue to support the potential for moderate to heavy snowfall
across the Central and Western Highlands where a trough is
developing between the low to our west and a low to our far
east. Expect some of the highest totals of 3 to 6 inches to be
found in this area, with the greatest amounts in the higher
terrain. Farther north, the upper level dynamics will be weaker
resulting in lower snow amounts, particularly in northeast
Aroostook county where downsloping off the higher terrain north
and east of the St. John River in New Brunswick will result in
weaker lift. Expect not much more than an inch or two in the
Caribou and Presque Isle area.

Precipitation ends early Wednesday morning as the low exits to
the east. Expect a blustery NW flow during the day along with
clearing skies. Enough moisture and lift may be in place to
support a few snow showers in the north during the afternoon.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
H5 trof will be crossing the area on Wednesday night with isolated
snow showers acrs the far north in the evening. Skies will be clear
acrs most of the area overnight with temps dipping into the 20s as
system departs into the North Atlantic.

Sfc ridge axis crosses the CWA on Thursday with sunny skies in the
morning giving way to partly sunny skies as warm front begins to
nose twd New England.

Upr low fcst to dig into the OH and TV valleys Thursday night and
eventually begin to close off on Friday. H5 ridge likely to be
located over the CWA but high-mid deck encroaching on the area in sw
flow will lead to mostly cloudy skies. Latest guidance is not giving
any indication that pcpn will be in any hurry to move in the area
toward the end of the week.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sfc high pressure will be sitting over ern Canada Friday night but
guidance continues to differ on where the closed low will track.
Given the synoptic pattern will likely be a cloudy and fairly wet
weekend with temps still above average. Upr ridge builds in on
Monday with temps warming back into the 50s through the end of the
period.

.AVIATION /02Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
NEAR TERM:
Tonight... IFR to potentially LIFR conditions at southern
terminals in rain and snow, improving to MVFR late. VFR to
possibly MVFR conditions at northern terminals in light snow
showers. Light E flow shifting N to NW by Wednesday morning, and
increasing to 5 to 15 kts with gusts to 20 kts developing behind
FROPAs. All sites improve to VFR Wednesday morning. Brief
MVFR/IFR Wednesday afternoon in any snow showers. NW wind
becoming W at 10 to 15kts with gusts up to 25 kts.

SHORT TERM:
Wednesday night...VFR Downeast with ocnl MVFR northern terminals. SW
10-15kts.

Thursday...VFR. W 5-15kts.

Thursday night...VFR becoming MVFR late. Light S.

Friday-Sunday...Mainly MVFR/IFR in snow and rain showers. Light S
becoming E Saturday, then NE 5-10kts Sunday.

.MARINE...
NEAR TERM: A Gale Warning for the offshore waters and a SCA for
the intracoastal waters is currently in effect for west winds
gusting up to 30 kt near the coast and 35 kt offshore. Seas will
build up to 9 ft tonight in response to the winds. Winds
decrease below SCA levels for the intracoastal and offshore
waters by Wednesday afternoon. Waves remain above SCA levels
throughout the day.


SHORT TERM: Winds remain below SCA levels, though will be
marginal over the outer waters at times. Seas increase above 5ft
late Friday night.
