.SHORT TERM...Today through Tuesday night...A weak ridge of high
pressure will build in today, bringing cool air and dry
conditions to most of the region. A few lingering snow showers
will continue through the early morning in the Central ID
Mountains. Some hi-res ensembles show snow and rain on higher
elevations in the foothills near the Boise metro area this
morning, but confidence is low. Patchy valley fog will begin to
develop this morning, mainly in sheltered valleys in the West
Central/Boise Mountains. This fog will mix out by late morning.
A cut off upper level low will slowly move into the region on
Monday, bringing widespread valley rain and mountain snow. Snow
levels will be around 3000-4000 feet on Monday, rising to
4000-5000 feet by Tuesday morning. There is a low chance of
mixed precipitation on Monday morning in the Treasure Valley,
which could slightly impact roads on the morning commute.
Accumulations will likely be minimal, with around 1-3 inches of
snow anticipated in mountain valleys with higher summits seeing
anywhere from 3-6 inches by Tuesday night. The Magic Valley
could see locally higher accumulations if a convergence zone
develops over the Snake River Valley on Tuesday with a more
zonal flow aloft.
.LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday...The shortwave trough
will continue to move eastward on Wednesday morning, with
lingering snow showers near the Nevada border and in the
mountains in the morning. Cool and dry northwesterly flow will
then build over the region as high pressure builds over the
northeastern Pacific. There is good model agreement in this
forecast, with high confidence in dry and cool conditions for
Thanksgiving Day. The Canadian Model suite of ensemble solutions
shows a slower progression of the ridge, with precipitation
lingering into Thursday, but that is the only outlier solution.
Temperatures will be about 3-8 degrees below normal on
Wednesday-Friday. The high pressure center will then begin to
move into the region on Saturday, with air stagnation and an
long lasting inversion potentially setting up over the weekend.

.AVIATION...Mostly VFR outside of precipitation. Isolated showers
ending this morning, mainly near KMYL. MVFR to IFR in
precipitation. Patchy valley fog/low stratus developing over
the region this morning, mixing out by late morning. Mountains
obscured in low clouds, valley fog, and precipitation. Snow
levels 4000-5000 feet MSL, falling to 3000-4000 ft MSL by
Sun/18Z. Surface winds: variable less than 10 kt. Winds aloft
at 10kft MSL: W-SW 10-20 kt.
KBOI...VFR/MVFR ceilings and a 30 percent chance of additional
showers. Surface winds variable around 5 kt becoming SE 8-11 kt
around 25/00Z.
