.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Monday)
Issued at 219 PM EDT Sun Jun 1 2025

Key Messages:

 - Mostly dry conditions and hazy/smoky sky will persist through
  Monday

 - Isolated showers and storms near the TN/GA stateline and/or
mountain areas late this afternoon/evening. Partly to mostly
  cloudy elsewhere.

Northwesterly flow aloft continues to advect smoke from the
Canadian wildfires across the southeast. At this time there are no
surface visibility restrictions (per surface observations) from
smoke as this remains suspended well above ground. Additionally,
the latest HRRR guidance indicates visibilities should remain up
through Monday but we`ll continue to monitor. A mid-level trough
is currently moving across the Lower MS Valley bringing slightly
higher coverage of clouds to North GA today in addition to the Cu
field that`s beginning to develop. This combined with the smoke
has given the sky a persistent milky/opaque appearance. This trend
will continue through the remainder of the day. A stray shower
and/or thunderstorm remains possible late this afternoon and
evening across North GA near the TN/GA stateline. Noting drier
trends in the latest hi-res guidance thus trended drier in the
forecast for North GA this afternoon. Again, a shower and/or storm
remains possible but chances remain quite isolated. The mid-level
trough should be east of the area by mid-day Monday at which
point mid to upper ridging and surface high pressure will begin
building over the Southeast. This will result in continued dry
weather and seasonal temperatures to North and Central Georgia to
start the work week.

Temperatures are forecast to fall into the upper 50s to low 60s
(57-64 degree range) overnight -- though temperatures in the
mountains may fair in the 53 to 57 degree range. Forecast high
temperatures will climb into the 80s areawide on Monday (perhaps
in the low to mid 70s in the mountains). Temperatures Monday Night
will be more mild with readings in the 60s.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday morning through next Saturday)
Issued at 219 PM EDT Sun Jun 1 2025

Key Messages:

 - Dry and warm weather through Wednesday.

 - Increasing moisture/humidity and thunderstorm activity by the
end of the week and into the weekend.

Conditions will remain dry and warm through the middle of the
week as a strong upper level ridge sits across the Southeast U.S..
The dry airmass in place and subsidence from the ridge will
squash any chances for diurnal convection across north and central
Georgia on Tuesday. There is only a slight chance for showers or
a thunderstorm on Wednesday across southeast areas of central G,
where the ridge will have less influence. High temperatures will
be just above normal, reaching the upper 80s to low 90s each day.

On Thursday and Friday, the ridge will be kicked east over the
western Atlantic as troughing pushes into the Midwest and another
trough nudges over Georgia from the south. In response, low-level
flow will turn south-southeasterly over Georgia, bringing
increasingly humid air into the area. With high temperatures still
in the upper 80s to low 90s, the higher humidity will make it
feel like a typical (oppressive) mid-summer day in south. The
lessening influence of the ridge combined with increased moisture
will allow for diurnal showers and thunderstorms to return each
day, with better chances on Friday. Chances for showers and storms
could increase further over the weekend as a reinforcing
shortwave trough and associated cold front push into the Tennessee
Valley. This could bring a risk for severe thunderstorms, but
uncertainty is high this far in advance. With a cooler airmass and
increased cloud cover, high temperatures over the weekend will
return to the mid to upper 80s.
