.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Tuesday)
Issued at 117 AM EST Mon Dec 22 2025
High pressure sliding over the Carolinas has turned winds out of
the east across much north and central Georgia, ushering in a
drier and cooler airmass. The low deck of clouds over the western
half of the area this morning will gradually break up and lift
thanks to the drier air moving in. By this afternoon, skies will
be partly cloudy with breezy easterly winds, and high temps in
the mid to upper 50s in north GA, and low to mid 60s in central
GA.
Today will be by far the coolest day of the week, as expansive
mid-level ridging starts to build across most of the central and
southern US tonight into Tuesday. Downstream of the ridge, a weak
system moving across the Northeast US will kick the surface high
pressure over the Carolinas southwest across Georgia, settling
over the northern Gulf. Low to mid level winds over Georgia will
flip to out of the west-southwest in response, ushering in a much
warmer airmass. Mid-level moisture also increases with this
airmass, resulting in mostly cloudy skies tonight through Tuesday.
While most of the area is expected to be rain-free other than a
few sprinkles, there is a slight chance (10-20%) for light rain in
far north GA. With the warmer airmass, afternoon high
temperatures will surge into the mid to upper 60s in north GA, and
upper 60s to low 70s in central GA.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday night through Sunday)
Issued at 117 AM EST Mon Dec 22 2025
An expansive, strong mid-/upper-level ridge will encompass much
of the CONUS during the week ahead. The result will be very warm
temperatures for this time of year, as well as overall dry
conditions. The exception to the latter is a slight chance (20% or
lower) for rain showers across parts of north Georgia on Friday,
as a mid-level shortwave trough treks across the Ohio River Valley
and bring a cold front through the Tennessee River Valley. At
this time, thunderstorms are not expected given essentially zero
progged instability. Rainfall totals are expected to be a few
hundredths of an inch, at most. Rain chances are greater on Sunday
(up to around 40% across parts of north Georgia) as a stronger
cold front may bring more lift for showers.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 529 AM EST Mon Dec 22 2025
VFR CIGs of 4-6kft across much of the area will continue to
gradually lift and scatter through the afternoon. CIGs start to
lower again late tonight into Tuesday AM, potentially down to
MVFR from 12-16Z. Can`t rule out a period of light rain during
this, but chances are very low (under 10%). Winds E at 7-11 kts
gusting to 20 kts through early evening before turning SE at 3-6
kts late evening, and then finally SW Tuesday AM.
//ATL Confidence...12Z Update...
Medium confidence on CIGs Tuesday AM.
High confidence on other elements.
