Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
720 PM EST Tue Dec 23 2025

...New UPDATE, AVIATION...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Areas of fog, some of which may be locally dense, will be
  possible during the late night and early morning hours for the
  next several days.

- Cooler weather returns next week.

&&

.UPDATE...
Issued at 720 PM EST Tue Dec 23 2025

With the ridge axis continuing to shift farther south, winds are
already lighter this evening than they were this time yesterday.
Skies are also nearly clear across the region. However, overall
moisture remains limited in the column once again, as noted in
early 0Z sounding data. Much like last night, the sfc-800mb layer
is really the only region with any appreciable moisture. However,
there is even less than this time last night. With surface
dewpoints in the upper 50s to low 60s, it is going to be hard to
reach saturation south of I-4 to see fog develop tonight. As
dewpoints rise over the next couple days, the potential for fog
will increase to a larger area.

This is consistent with the current forecast. No changes are
needed at this time.

&&

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 720 PM EST Tue Dec 23 2025

There is likely to be fog to the north of terminals in the pre-dawn
hours on Wednesday, with about a 20% chance that fog could reach
KLAL between 09Z and 13Z and a 10% chance for KTPA during the same
time-frame. After 13Z, any fog that is present should quickly lift
to low clouds and then mix out by 15Z as drier air aloft mixes down.
There is a higher potential for fog (20% to 40%) on Thursday
morning. Through the weekend, the probabilities will continue to
increase. Until early next week, fog is really the only aviation
hazard of note. Otherwise, quiet VFR weather is expected.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 205 PM EST Tue Dec 23 2025

Surface high pressure will continue to dominate the weather
through the weekend as it settles over the eastern gulf waters
and Florida peninsula with an upper level ridge remaining over the
gulf. Therefore, we`ll continue to see comfortable temperatures
and humidity with the only potential issue being some late night
and early morning fog each day through the weekend, especially
across the Nature Coast. Early next week an upper level trough and
associated cold front will move across the eastern U.S. and
through our region late Monday/early Tuesday. There could be
enough moisture for a few showers ahead of and along this front,
otherwise cold high pressure will build in behind it bringing
much cooler drier air into the region for the last few days of the
year. Current indications are that we could see freezing
temperatures across parts of the Nature Coast next Wednesday
morning.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 205 PM EST Tue Dec 23 2025

High pressure will hold over the waters through the period. Winds
will continue to subside tonight, with relatively benign
conditions for the remainder of the week. There is the possibility
of some land fog advecting over the near shore waters early in the
mornings later this week.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 205 PM EST Tue Dec 23 2025

Fire weather concerns remain minimal as relative humidity values
remain above critical levels with winds less than 15 mph.
