.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Issued at 333 PM MDT Sun Jun 8 2025

A weak frontal boundary stretches from San Francisco across the
Great Basin and into the Four Corners this afternoon. There are
scattered pockets of moisture along this feature. Meanwhile,
shortwave ripples have tracked through the trailing edge of a bigger
Great Lakes storm system today. This has produced some scattered
convection on the Central Mountains and Gore Range. Down south on
the San Juans a few more organized cells have materialized along the
previously mentioned boundary. These storms are drifting southeast
off the terrain and could produce a strong outflow or two along the
highway 160 corridor this afternoon.

Tonight this activity will rapidly diminish towards sunset and we`ll
see another quiet night here on the West Slope. High pressure
continues to build Monday as the Great Lakes system pulls away. This
will send area temperatures upward in excess of 5 degrees above
climatology and higher by week`s end. PWAT values remain elevated
Monday along the frontal boundary stretched along the southern third
of the CWA. This will send POPs up across most of our mountainous
terrain Monday afternoon. Shower coverage will increase southward of
I-70, with near zero chances for most areas northward. Abundant
moisture should help a few of these showers produce brief downpours
and some small hail, mainly around the southern mountains. Gusty
outflow winds will be on the menu too. Sunny skies will prevail
north of the Colorado River, while cloud cover increases to the
south on the terrain Monday afternoon. Showers and storms will
quickly decay at sunset Monday evening.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Issued at 333 PM MDT Sun Jun 8 2025

The long term consists of a series of warm days with convection in
the afternoon, primarily over the high terrain. Upper level ridging
weakens on Tuesday, and flow becomes more zonal through the
workweek. Ridging looks to build again over the weekend. High
temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees above normal each day. The most
anomalous warmth will be in the valleys, particularly in the
northern half of our CWA. As ridging builds over the weekend high
temperatures should increase a bit more. This means highs in the 90s
through the workweek, and potential to approach 100 degrees over the
weekend for the Grand Valley and valleys of Eastern Utah. With no
passing systems in the long term forecast, widespread precipitation
is not expected in the long term period. However, a consistent
stream of atmospheric moisture is expected to keep PWATs elevated to
100-200% of normal through Thursday. This will support daily
afternoon convection chances, mostly over the high terrain. Once
drier air moves in on Friday PoPs decrease. Anomalous warmth, drier
air, and gusty afternoon winds could raise fire weather concerns
late this week and into the weekend.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z TUESDAY/...
Issued at 1203 AM MDT Mon Jun 9 2025

SCT to BKN clouds remain due to decaying showers/storms from
this past evening. Skies will slowly clear by morning with
mostly sunny skies by 12Z. VFR conditions expected to prevail
through much of the period. Isolated to scattered showers and
storms redevelop after 18Z Monday over the central and southern
mountains with some drift into lower southern valleys late in
the day. KTEX, KDRO, and KGUC have the best chance to see
thunderstorms although a lower probability, so included PROB30
groups for this potential. Could see brief MVFR in any storm
activity. Otherwise, breezy afternoon winds are possible with
gusts 15 to 30 mph.
