Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Sacramento CA
1258 PM PST Tue Jan 14 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
Dry weather with near to above normal high temperatures
continue. North to east winds weaken across the Valley and
foothills, lingering gusts in the mountains through Wednesday.
Colder overnight low temperatures with areas of patchy frost
expected this week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Mostly clear conditions continue across interior NorCal this
afternoon, with just a few high clouds visible on GOES West visible
satellite imagery. Winds have calmed significantly across the
area, with just a few canyon sites reporting winds over 30 mph,
and everywhere in the Valley showing gusts below 20 mph. While
winds will be generally lighter the next few days, north to east
winds will continue through the end of the week.
Otherwise, the ridging pattern we`ve been experiencing for a while
looks to remain in place for the foreseeable future. This means
continued dry and clear conditions into the weekend. The
probabilities of reaching freezing (32 F) remain relatively low,
with the NBM advertising around a less than 25% chance tonight
through Friday morning. With the cold overnight/morning
temperatures and lighter winds in the forecast, areas of patchy
frost may develop in the Valley through the short term forecast
period. Highs will be near to slightly above normal for the time
of year, generally in the 50s to mid 60s in the Valley, and 30s to
50s at higher elevations.
&&
.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Saturday THROUGH Tuesday)...
High amplitude Eastern Pacific upper ridging continues off the
West Coast through the weekend. The ridge axis shifts inland on
Monday, then a weak short wave moves through it on Tuesday. Areas
of gusty north to east wind will be possible late Sunday into
Monday. Otherwise, dry weather expected with near normal high
temperatures.
&&
.AVIATION...
Mainly VFR conditions over interior NorCal next 24 hrs. Surface
wind generally below 12 kts except areas of N-E surface wind 15-25
kts in N and E foothills/mountains thru 20z Wed.
&&
.STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
None.
