.UPDATE...
Air Quality and Aviation Sections Updated
&&
&&
.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Minor Heat Risk will be present for most of the lower
elevations today with Moderate Heat Risk in localized areas of
the San Joaquin Valley and in the Kern County Desert.
2. Drier air will cause minimum relative humidity to fall
between 10 and 20 percent for much of the region through the
forecast period.
3. A minor cooling trend arrives later this week, then expect
steady and seasonably warm temperatures into the weekend.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
A zonal flow pattern has set up over central California and is
expected to persist through Friday before a broad upper level
trough shifts the flow to the Southwest. This flow will continue
to favor a cooling trend through the next couple of days,
however as the air is originating from the lower latitudes,
maximum temperatures are expected to be a few degrees above
average. Stronger winds associated with the incoming trough will
enhance the cooling and cause afternoon highs to hover near
normal for the valley areas.
Much of the incoming air from this pattern is fairly dry, with
minimum relative humidity values through the weekend expected
between 15 and 20 percent through the valley and mountain areas.
Localized areas of the Sierra Nevada have the potential to
experience minRH values near 10 percent. While the RH values
alone are enough to cause some concern for fire development,
relatively cooler temperatures, and stronger wind gusts mostly
in the lee side of the Sierra will keep conditions below red
flag thresholds.
