.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Near average temperatures are expected across much of the
region into the weekend. There is a 20 to 50 percent chance to
exceed 100 degrees in the San Joaquin Valley today and
Saturday.
2. Increased fire risk this weekend with widespread minimum
relative humidity between 15 and 25 percent for the non-desert
areas. Min RH expected less than 10 percent in the Mojave
Desert with gusty winds in the afternoon to evening.
3. Slight cooling trend early next week before returning above
triple digits. 10 to 30 percent chance for greater than 105
degrees in the San Joaquin Valley next Friday.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Temperatures remain seasonable today with a 20 to 50 percent
chance of triple digits mostly in Fresno and points south thanks
to a ridge of high pressure over much of the Continental US.
However, latest ensembles agree a trough slides in on Monday
across Northern California and the Pacific Northwest bringing a
slight cooldown. Tuesday brings a rebound in temperatures
followed by a return of triple digits the rest of the week
where we have a 25 to 55 percent chance of triple digits on
Wednesday before a 45 to 90 percent chance on Thursday and
Friday. There is a 10 to 30 percent chance of highs of at least
105 on Friday in the Valley. Thunderstorm chances are very
minimal for the Sierra Nevada.
However, humidities will remain low across the region with the
Valley and foothills at 15 to 25 percent for the next several
days while the Mojave Slopes and Desert are below 10 percent.
This combined with afternoon wind gusts increasing every day
this weekend leads to a minor fire risk to our area. However,
the risk is higher but still minor along the Mojave Slopes due
to the higher winds and probability of 40 mph wind gusts daily.
The Mojave Desert also has the slightly higher risk due to max
wind gusts around 25 mph in the evening.
