AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

.SYNOPSIS...Near to above normal temperatures are expected Monday
through  Wednesday, with highs in the upper 80`s to mid 90`s across
the interior valleys. Fire weather concerns return mid to late week,
with enhancing west to northwest winds and low humidity.

.DISCUSSION...Scattered cloud cover has begun streaming into the PNW
as a weak shortwave digs in behind the departing upper trough.
Breezy north-northeast flow will continue across the higher terrain
of interior Mendocino and Lake County overnight. Otherwise, mostly
clear skies and a broad trend toward ridging will allow the marine
layer to redevelop along the north coast. Areas of fog are possible
along northern Humboldt and Del Norte coasts, as well as some
interior valleys.

A warming and drying trend is still on track for Monday through
Wednesday as a broad ridge moves in from the eastern Pacific.
Temperatures in the mid to upper 80`s with isolated valleys reaching
the low 90`s expected (NBM 60 to 80%) including Lakeport, Ukiah,
Covelo, Redway, Weaverville, Hayfork and Willow Creek. Daytime winds
will be broadly NNW and terrain driven around higher elevations.
Daytime RH values forecast at 15 to 25%, especially across Lake and
interior Mendocino and Trinity counties. Although winds are not
especially strong, high temperatures and low daytime humidity will
pose fire weather concerns for these areas.

Mid-range models are still in general agreement on broad upper level
troughing initiating a series of shortwaves late Wednesday through
Friday, disrupting the ridging pattern and very slightly reducing
temperatures. Increasing northerly winds Thursday and Friday
afternoon will prolong fire weather concerns for the interior and
bring breezy conditions to the coast. Temperatures look to rebound
even warmer next weekend as long range models show persistent
ridging over the PNW.

.AVIATION...06Z TAF: There is again potential but high uncertainty
for some MVFR to IFR conditions along the coast by early Monday
morning. Chances are lowest in exposed areas along the coast such as
Crescent City where there is less than a 30% chance of a ceiling
overnight. Anything that does form in these locations will most
likely be shallow, but very localized LIFR fog that will quickly
lift past sunrise. There is some higher potential (60 to 80% chance)
for IFR to potentially LIFR ceilings around Humboldt Bay, very early
Monday morning. Weaker winds will likely help any ceiling that does
form hold on a bit longer Monday morning compared to Sunday. /JHW

.MARINE...Fresh to strong northerlies have persisted across
the southern waters with northern waters remaining more gentle.
However, gusts up to 25 kts will continue for the northern waters
through Monday before pulling back south. Similar gusty conditions
will continue through at least mid next week in the southern waters
as high pressure gradually forms along shore. The sea state will
mostly be controlled by short period wind waves as steep as 8 feet
at 8 seconds. A very minor northwest swell up to 4 feet at 12
seconds will start to build around early morning through the week.

.FIRE WEATHER...A warming trend is forecast through Wednesday as
surface high pressure build in. Daytime RH`s trend down as
temperatures increase next week into mid 90`s with breezy NW
afternoon winds. Overnight RH recoveries will still be mostly >50%
aside from some isolated valleys in far eastern Trinity and
counties.

Wednesday through late next week models are in a good agreement
on a series of shortwaves moving across the area. At this point,
ensembles remain dry with temperatures few degrees colder.
However, low afternoon RH`s values and enhancing west`northwest
winds will promote elevated fire weather conditions in Trinity,
interior Mendocino and Lake counties. Long range models are
beginning to show warmer temperatures resuming late next weekend.
