.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Unseasonably warm temperatures will continue through this
week with highs approaching 15 degrees above average on Monday.
2. There is a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms across
the Sierra Nevada each afternoon Tuesday through Friday.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
The region is currently under the out edge of a trough centered
over Montana, resulting in a slight cool off from yesterday.
This will be short lived as a ridge pushes in from the Pacific
and creates an area of lower pressure underneath the axis of
said ridge. This will lead to increased temperatures in Central
California tomorrow, with highs reaching to around 15 degrees
above normal.
After tomorrow begins a series of troughs dipping into the
southwest, the first coming in on Tuesday and the second on
Friday. During that time, just enough moisture may be pulled in
from the ocean that showers and thunderstorms can develop in the
Sierra Nevada each afternoon from Tuesday through Friday. The
weaker of these two is first trough, as it is much wider than
the second, which is looking to be narrower. A narrow trough
concentrated energy while a wide trough spreads energy out. This
may lead to more wide spread thunderstorms on Friday due to
this feature. These troughs will also have the added effect of
cooling the region back into the 70`s on Wednesday as the first
trough passes through and until Saturday when the trough moves
away. Sunday will see the return of 80+ degree highs in the
Valley.
