.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Expect gradual warming through midweek with Moderate Heat
Risk for much of the lower elevations.

2. There is a 15 to 25 percent chance for thunderstorms in the
Sierra Nevada this afternoon and evening. Slight (10-20%)
chances for thunderstorms continue on Monday.

3. A cooling trend arrives later this week and lasts into the
following weekend.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
An upper-level trough and associated low remains off the
Central CA coast and is forecast to move inland tonight into
Monday. Today`s highs will likely be similar to yesterday`s.
High temperatures in the warmest locations will reach the
mid to upper-90s today, and a few desert locations will once
again reach into the triple digits. Thunderstorms in the Sierra
Nevada have generally a 15-25% chance of development this
afternoon and will likely dissipate by the early evening. Slight
(10-20%) chances for afternoon thunderstorms continue into
Monday. Otherwise, dry conditions prevail throughout our portion
of Central CA.

High temperatures will continue to warm Monday through the
middle of the week. More locations can expect to reach triple
digits by Monday or Tuesday. Chances for triple digit heat from
Monday until Wednesday range from 30-70 percent in the SJ
Valley and also about 30-70 percent for highs to reach or top
105 in the Kern County desert, with the best chances towards
Ridgecrest/Inyokern. Afternoon humidity will also remain quite
low in these hot spots and could lower a bit towards midweek,
or to around 15-20% beginning Tuesday. A low to moderate risk
for grass or brush fires exists this week. Practice cold water
safety if venturing into the lakes and waterways, as water
continues to flow cold and fast! Snowpack is still melting in
the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada as is typical for
this time of year.

Milder temperatures are in store for later in the week into the
following weekend. Highs may struggle to top 90 degrees in some
valley locations on Friday and Saturday, as chances are at
20-55 percent for a high below 90 degrees for Friday and rise
to around 40-75 percent on Saturday. This cooling trend may
bring increased winds to the prone areas, such as the West Side
Mountains and possibly into the Kern County desert. For now,
the latest CPC outlooks show odds tilted towards below average
temperatures for both the 6-10 day period and near average
temepratures during the 8-14 day period. Highs in the lower 90s
are average for this time of year, including by mid June.

&&

.AVIATION...
06Z Update:

VFR conditions will prevail for the next 24 hours across the Central
California Interior. A 15-25 percent chance of thunderstorms
exists in the Sierra Nevada from 18Z Monday until 03Z Tuesday.
