Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Reno NV
110 AM PDT Sun Jul 6 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
* Cumulus build-ups along the Sierra this afternoon with 10-15%
chance of showers for Alpine and N.Mono counties.
* Showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible early week,
followed by increased winds, low humidity, and potential fire
weather concerns mid-week.
* Hotter conditions are expected late this week with triple digit
heat possible in western Nevada valleys by next weekend.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Highs this afternoon will warm another 3-6 degrees from
yesterday, reaching right around average for early July with lower
90s for W.Nevada valleys and lower 80s for Sierra communities.
Added heating today may develop more afternoon cumulus along the
Sierra, yielding a 10-15% chance for isolated showers across
portions of E.Alpine and N.Mono counties.
Temperatures further warm on Monday into the mid/upper 90s across
W.Nevada with additional afternoon cumulus build-ups and typical
late day afternoon west breezes prevailing. Additional chances
for showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible along portions
of E.Sierra and near the southern Oregon border.
Otherwise dry, warm, and breezy conditions are expected through
much of next week. We could see a bump in our winds mid-week as
a closed low off the coast begins to push inland. Currently
keeping an eye on Wednesday for elevated to locally critical fire
weather conditions for portions of western Nevada due to gusty
winds and very dry conditions. Afternoon RH could dip into the
single digits across much of W.Nevada with poor overnight RH
recoveries.
High pressure amplifies towards the end of the week, allowing for
another heat up with highs approaching the 100 degree mark for
W.Nevada communities and near 90F for the Sierra. Fuentes

.AVIATION...
Widespread VFR conditions prevail this afternoon with light
breezes in the afternoons. Cumulus build-ups will be more
pronounced along the higher terrain Sunday afternoon with low
chances (10-15%) of afternoon showers in the Sierra between KTRK
and KMMH.
