Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Fort Worth TX
715 PM CDT Sat Jul 26 2025
...New Aviation, Short Term...
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Hot and humid conditions will continue into next week. A Heat
Advisory is in effect for parts of North Texas today.
- Scattered thunderstorms are expected mainly along and east of
I-35 this afternoon and evening. Isolated showers and storms are
possible again on Sunday, before hot and dry weather resumes
heading into the workweek.
&&
.SHORT TERM... /NEW/
Update:
Earlier had to increase pops across our northeast counties and
expand pops well to the northwest as showers and storms made it
much further westward into the cwa. Activity is now diminishing
with the loss of daytime heating, and only low pops appear
warranted early this evening until things dry out. No other
changes were made to the forecast.

Previous Discussion:
/This Weekend/
Our main concerns today will be the heat/humidity and isolated to
scattered showers and thunderstorms. A hot and remarkably humid
airmass has been transported into East/Northeast Texas overnight,
with 80 degree dew points extending all the way into Oklahoma as
of 1 pm. Temperatures within this zone are in the low to mid 90s,
resulting in heat index values between 105-110 for portions of
eastern North Texas this afternoon. Due to this, we expanded the
Heat Advisory to include Lamar, Delta, and Hopkins counties. Dew
points drop off pretty quick the further west you go, particularly
for areas west of I-35/35W. The trade-off is that the ambient
temperature is higher, so the net result is still heat index
values peaking around 105 for most of North Texas this afternoon.
Temperatures are a touch lower across Central Texas, so no heat
headlines are valid or anticipated.
The hot and humid airmass will also favor the development of
isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms today, mainly
along and east of I-35/35E. A few storms are already ongoing near
the moisture axis in Fannin county with additional areas of
towering cumulus developing further south. There isn`t an overly
organized source of ascent, so expect a smattering of pulse storms
that develop and dissipate within an hour or so, and additional
storms developing along outflow boundaries. Organized severe
storms are not expected, but gusty outflow winds and brief heavy
downpours can be expected with most storms. Storm coverage should
wane with the loss of heating this evening outside of a few
lingering showers/storms that persist shortly after sunset.
Tonight will be warm and humid, but the exceptionally high dew
point temperatures should disperse as a surface high builds to
our east and a low deepens to our NW. Tomorrow`s weather will be
seasonably hot with temperatures in the mid 90s. As alluded to
above, afternoon dew points should be 2-4 degrees lower than this
afternoon. Heat index values will still be in the triple digits
for most, but generally below our heat advisory criteria. Moisture
pools will linger to our east and north, so expect heat
advisories to be issued in East Texas by the Shreveport NWS office
and in southern Oklahoma by the Norman forecast office. A few
isolated storms will be possible across most of North Texas in the
afternoon, but our best chance for precipitation will be late in
the day as a quick-moving outflow boundary moves into the Central
Texas from the south. Storms should dissipate near sunset, or not
much further north than US-84.

.LONG TERM... /Issued 142 PM CDT Sat Jul 26 2025/
/This Week/
A mid-level high will retrograde and build over the forecast area
early in the week, then West Texas later in the workweek. Triple
digit heat is expected to make a return to the region starting
Tuesday that continues through most of the workweek. While the
DFW airport did not manage to rise above 99 degrees earlier this
week...there is a 40% chance it hits 100 on Tuesday, 60% chance
on Wednesday, and a 50% chance on Thursday. Dew point temperatures
should be lower (especially west of I-35/35W) for most of the
week. Heat index values for most locations across the eastern
parts of the area will likely peak at or above 105 just about
every afternoon, so additional heat advisories will likely be
issued tomorrow or Sunday night. As the high shifts into West
Texas late in the week into next weekend, it will open the door
for additional moisture and rain chances.

.AVIATION... /NEW/
/00Z TAFs/
VCTS/VCSH will continue to affect D10 airports through 01Z,
