.SYNOPSIS...
After a cold start to the week on Sunday, clear to partly
cloudy skies are expected through Monday with a warming
southerly flow. This warming trend will continue for the
remainder of the week, along with occasional chances for rain.
&&
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
A high pressure axis over central Ohio this morning will move
east and away from the region, with a southerly flow taking its
place. Morning cloud cover in the eastern half of the CWA and
portions of west central Ohio will give way to partly cloudy
skies, especially as the air begins to warm. Highs today will be
about 10-15 degrees warmer than Saturday, near 40 in the north
to the upper 40s in the south.
&&
.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
Clear to partly cloudy skies will see an increase later in the
day Monday, generally in the northwest. This is due to the
approach of a cold front. Likewise, there is a small chance for
rain to begin over west central Ohio towards Monday evening.
Wind will pick up ahead of this front, even overnight tonight in
the northwestern 1/3 of the CWA as the pressure gradient
tightens. This will usher in warmer air with morning lows in the
lower 20s and highs in the mid 30s.
&&
.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Short wave energy and its associated surface low pressure will
track east from the Great Lakes into New England Monday night
into Tuesday. A trailing cold front will make inroads into
northern Indiana and northern Ohio, but this looks to weaken and
eventually wash out sometime on Tuesday. In any case, there
will be a chance of rain with the highest PoPs expected for our
northeast zones Monday night. Less chances for rain are forecast
for Tuesday as forcing will be fairly weak. After lows in the
30s, highs will warm into the 40s.
For Tuesday night into Wednesday, Christmas Day, another mid
level short wave will move east into the Ohio Valley region,
likely weakening as it does. It will bring a chance of rain,
with highest chances for our western zones. Otherwise, skies
will be mostly cloudy to cloudy. Lows in the 30s will give way
to highs in the 40s, with perhaps a few lower 50s possible south
of the Ohio River.
A lull in the precipitation threat is then expected Wednesday
night into Thursday as a weak mid level ridge moves east through
the region. This period will also mark the start of a warming
trend. After lows mainly in the 30s, highs will range from the
upper 40s north to the lower 50s south.
A couple of systems will affect our region Friday into the
weekend, with the stronger system coming over the weekend. This
will result in more chances of rain (higher PoPs) along with
warm temperatures for late December. Lows will warm into the 40s
with highs in the mid 50s to lower 60s by Saturday.
&&
.AVIATION /12Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Sct-bkn fair wx cu/sc will be found over the region this
morning, dissipating as warmer air is brought in on weak
southerly flow. These clouds will be around 3500` and remain
VFR.
A light and variable wind will pick up slightly from the
se this morning around 5-6kt. Tonight, diurnal winds will
continue from the sse at DAY due to a tightening pressure
gradient ahead of a cold front, but remain 7-8kt through the
night. The remaining terminals will see a sse wind under 5kt
tonight.
OUTLOOK...MVFR/IFR conditions likely Monday night, persisting
into Tuesday. MVFR/IFR ceilings possible Wednesday into
Thursday.
