.DISCUSSION...
(This afternoon through next Saturday)
Issued at 1234 PM PDT Sat Jun 28 2025
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: An area of high pressure over the
Desert Southwest will build northwestward across Northern Nevada
this weekend. An upper-level area of low pressure will meander
around the Eastern Pacific Ocean Monday, just off the coast of
Central California. This cyclone aloft will begin to slowly move
eastward Tuesday. A warming trend is expected today through
Monday. By Monday afternoon, maximum temperatures across Northern
Nevada will be seven to nine degrees above normal for this time
of year. Maximum temperatures in Northern Nevada Tuesday afternoon
will also be seven to nine degrees above seasonal values. This
will result in a moderate risk for heat-related illnesses in the
valleys of Northern Nevada both Monday afternoon and Tuesday
afternoon. Although heat events like this are relatively common
and happen many times a year, heat-related impacts are possible
for those new to the area if simple precautions are not taken.
Here are probabilities of maximum temperatures of 95 degrees or
higher for select locations in Northern Nevada on Monday, June
30th, 2025:
Winnemucca - 100%
Crescent Valley - 100%
Elko - 99%
Battle Mountain - 99%
Carlin - 99%
West Wendover - 95%
Denio - 95%
McDermitt - 95%
Montello - 75%
Spring Creek - 65%
In addition, south to southwest wind gusts near 30 mph are
possible in parts of Central Nevada Tuesday afternoon. The
aforementioned upper-level area of low pressure should make
landfall over Central California Wednesday. This cyclone aloft
will open up into a trough of low pressure Thursday as it moves
over the Silver State. Another atmospheric disturbance may move
over Central California Friday into next Saturday. Isolated,
mainly dry thunderstorms are possible in portions of Northern
Nevada each afternoon and evening Monday through next Saturday.
The majority of these thunderstorms will remain north of the
Interstate 80 corridor.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: High forecast confidence
regarding a warming trend today through Monday. High forecast
confidence regarding a moderate risk for heat-related illnesses in
the valleys of Northern Nevada both Monday afternoon and Tuesday
afternoon. Moderate forecast confidence regarding isolated
thunderstorm development each afternoon Monday through next
Saturday. Forecast confidence in general decreases dramatically
from day six onward. No deviations from the NBM model output.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
VFR conditions are expected at all terminals over the next 24
hours. Scattered to broken clouds with CIGs ranging from FL100 to
FL180 will persist across northern and central NV. Afternoon
breezes with gusts up to 20 kts will subside this evening between
00Z and 01Z Sunday.
AMD NOT SKED for KELY due to visibility sensor issues.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
Warm and dry conditions will persist through the weekend as high
pressure strengthens over the western U.S. While critical
thresholds are not expected at this time, elevated fire weather
conditions will continue due to minimum relative humidity values
remaining below 15% and sustained winds of 15-20 mph, with gusts
up to 25 mph. There is a 10-20% chance of isolated dry
thunderstorms early to mid next week, primarily north of the I-80
corridor.
