.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 235 PM CST Tue Dec 23 2025

Currently have upper ridging from the Lower Mississippi Valley
through the Southern Plains, with an upper trough off of the
West Coast. At the surface, a cold front extends across northern
MO and across north central and northeast KS.

Widespread dense fog that affected all of southeast and south
central KS through the morning hours, now only remains
generally along the KS Turnpike and is continuing to shrink.
With an unseasonably moist airmass remaining in place, another
round of fog will be likely tonight into Wed morning, affecting
most of the same areas as this morning. Dense fog will once
again be possible and at this point confidence is high enough to
run with an advisory.

Widespread low clouds and fog may have an affect on temps for
Wed, so did lower maxes a few degrees. However, just like
today, areas that do clear out will see a quick spike in temps.
Everything still looks on track for warm to near record temps
for Christmas Day, with 70s likely across southern KS with some
approaching upper 70s to near 80 along the KS/OK border. Still
looking for some weak upper energy to top the ridge on Thu
afternoon/night and will help get the Northern/Central Plains
into zonal flow aloft. Confidence remains high in mild temps
for Fri, with ICT and SLN potentially setting new max temp
records with readings around 70.

There remains good agreement between the ECMWF and GFS in
tracking a more robust shortwave out of southwest Canada and
into the Northern Plains by early Sat evening and into the
Upper Mississippi Valley by Sun morning. This solution is quite
a bit slower than the 12z runs from yesterday and would hold the
colder air back to the north longer. Therefore, it appears now
we will hold onto the warmer temps through Saturday, with the
cold front moving through Saturday night. So at this time
confidence is high that we are looking at a return to more
seasonal temps for Sun into the start of the work week, with
highs back into the 40s with even cooler readings for Monday.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 1146 AM CST Tue Dec 23 2025

IFR conditions continue for ICT with MVFR conditions for CNU.
Fog and low cigs will slowly lift over the next few hours with
VFR conditions for all sites generally expected after 20Z.

Tonight, fog and low cigs will once again be a widespread
concern with all sites expecting at least MVFR conditions. ICT
and HUT look to have the highest probability (50-60%) of seeing
visibility less than 1 mile. CNU and SLN have probabilities in
the 30-40% range for LIFR conditions. Current guidance indicates
vis and cigs improving after 15Z tomorrow.

Generally light southerly to southwesterly winds are expected
through the period.

.ICT WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
