National Weather Service Tallahassee FL
605 AM EST Sun Dec 22 2024
...New AVIATION...
.NEAR TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 314 AM EST Sun Dec 22 2024
High pressure over New England will promote northeasterly flow
today with mainly sunny skies expected again. Highs will still be
on the cool side, ranging from the mid-50s across southeast
Alabama and southwest Georgia to the lower 60s in the southeast
Big Bend. A weak surface trough begins developing late today into
tonight along the Florida east coast. This will send some cloud
cover into our eastern areas overnight. Additionally this will
tighten the pressure gradient ever so slightly, preventing the
winds from going calm overnight, especially east of the Flint and
Apalachicola Rivers. Thus, have trended a bit warmer for lows
tonight with upper 30s to lower 40s east of the Flint and
Apalachicola Rivers with lower to middle 30s farther west where
winds may go calm and skies remain mainly clear for most of the
night. Areas of frost are likely in western areas as well.
&&
.SHORT TERM...
(Monday through Tuesday night)
Issued at 314 AM EST Sun Dec 22 2024
As limited moisture returns to our area thanks to the nearby
surface trough, we`ll see more clouds than sun across the eastern
areas on Monday. There`s an outside shot at a light shower or two
near the I-75 corridor and eastern Big Bend Monday afternoon.
While I did raise rain chances slightly to account for this, these
are still less than 15%. Otherwise, western areas will see a mix
of sun and clouds. Highs will reach the mid-50s along the US-82
corridor with mid-60s in the southeast Big Bend. A very gradual
moistening trend continues into Tuesday along the easterly flow
weak high pressure moves over the southeast US and the trough
weakens. Thus, lows will warm into the 40s with highs Tuesday in
the 60s.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday through Saturday)
Issued at 314 AM EST Sun Dec 22 2024
A mid-level trough moves through the southeast US on Wednesday
with weak surface cyclogenesis over the western Gulf states.
However, this system won`t make it over to our area. Easterly
surface flow will continue to funnel in some Atlantic moisture
into our area. We`ll still be close enough to the system and the
mid-level feature for a few showers over our western areas
Christmas Day, but not expecting a washout by any means. It will
be a bit warmer than average with highs in the mid-60s to lower
70s and lows in the upper 40s to mid-50s. Another couple shortwave
troughs move through the mid-Mississippi Valley late week. While
these systems will stay well to our north, little perturbations
within the upper-level southwest flow will keep a chance of
showers in our area through the end of the week. But, daily rain
chances will only be in the 30-40% range at most. This also means
we don`t have any shots of cooler air returning through next
weekend and highs will stay in the 70s and lows in the 50s.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 605 AM EST Sun Dec 22 2024
VFR conditions will prevail with NE winds around 5-10 kt.
&&
.MARINE...
Issued at 314 AM EST Sun Dec 22 2024
Moderate northeasterly breezes will continue through the middle of
next week as high pressure remains situated over the northeast US.
A trough develops off the Florida Atlantic Coast early this week
with a few showers possible over the eastern waters. By mid-week,
a weakening cold front will bring a chance of showers over the
western waters. Seas will generally remain around 2 to 3 feet
through the period.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 314 AM EST Sun Dec 22 2024
Northeast transport winds around 10-15 mph are expected today and
Monday, decreasing to less than 10 mph on Tuesday. Clouds will
increase across the area Monday and Tuesday, which will help lower
the mixing heights a bit. Thus, good dispersions are expected
today, followed by fair to poor dispersions going into Monday and
Tuesday. Relative humidity will bottom out in the lower to
mid-30s today, then increasing over the next couple days.
&&
.HYDROLOGY...
Issued at 314 AM EST Sun Dec 22 2024

flood concerns are anticipated.
