For additional details on weather and expected impacts over the
next 7 days, please visit weather.gov/sto/briefing.
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Warm and dry today with minor HeatRisk. Breezy onshore winds will
mediate temperatures for the Delta/Sacramento Area.
- A weather system moving southwest from the PacNW will bring
breezier onshore winds Friday/Saturday with a few showers north
and potential for afternoon/evening thunderstorms.
- Northerly winds Sunday into Monday with elevated fire weather
concerns in portions of the Valley.

.DISCUSSION...
Warm and dry conditions expected today, though cooler than
yesterday as ridging begins to break down and a trough from the
Gulf of Alaska digs down into the Pacific Northwest. The Delta
and southern Sacramento Valley will see the coolest temperatures
due to Delta Breeze influence, but Valley highs overall will be in
the high 80s to mid 90s today. Friday and Saturday, the trough
will continue its southwest trek and begin gradually moving east
into the Great Basin. This will increase onshore flow for our area
on Friday and Saturday, with breezy southerly winds across the
area and slightly increased moisture profiles. There is a slight
chance (10-20%) for light showers and isolated mountain
thunderstorms on Friday along the Sierra crest, and Saturday in
the Burney Basin, southern Cascades, and far northern Sierra.
As trough departs, potential for a north wind event increases for
Sunday into Monday. Strongest winds are expected Sunday,
especially in the morning. While the majority of the strongest
winds won`t coincide with the lowest relative humidities during
mid-day, lingering gusts combined with humidities in the teens to
low 20s will bring briefly elevated fire weather conditions to
portions of the northern Sacramento Valley. Monday sees
significantly weaker winds and therefore also lower fire weather
concerns.
Tuesday and beyond, another cooling trend is expected, with below
normal temperatures across interior NorCal and onshore flow in the
forecast. Further impacts are uncertain at this time so be sure to
check back in!

.AVIATION...
General VFR conditions are expected over the next 24 hours. South
to southwest wind gusts 15-20 kts through 15Z Friday in
Sacramento, and 20-35 kts through the forecast period for the
Delta and over the Sierra Crest. South to southwest winds then
increase further on Friday. Slight chance of showers in the
Valley, foothills, and mountains 12Z-20Z Friday. 10-15% chance
isolated thunderstorms in the Sierra/southern Cascades after 18Z
Friday bringing local MVFR/IFR conditions.
