Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Medford OR
242 AM PDT Sat Jun 21 2025
.DISCUSSION...An upper level low is located over the area this
morning. This low will slowly shift eastward late today into
early Sunday. This pattern will bring another day of cool and
cloudy conditions with showers and isolated thunderstorms. Then,
as the low moves east, showers will taper off Sunday morning and
expect high temperatures to warm to near normal. Lingering cool
temperatures are expected Sunday night/Monday morning. This is
followed by a warming trend early next week with high temperatures
heating up to around 5 to 10 degrees above normal on Tuesday.
* Showery, cool and breezy winds today. Isolated thunderstorms
possible (15% chance), mainly across eastern Douglas and eastern
Lake counties.
* Showers taper off late Sunday morning and expect near normal
afternoon temperatures.
* Areas of frost possible (45-100% chance) across northern Klamath
County and for portions of Lake County Sunday night and early
Monday morning.
* High temperatures trend above normal Monday and Tuesday.
Current radar and satellite imagery indicates showers occurring
from the Cascades eastward with additional showers moving onshore
this morning. As these showers spread inland, expect the most
widespread activity from the Southern Oregon Cascades today and
tonight, with scattered showers east of the Cascades and into
Northern California. Models also continue to support a low chance
(5-15%) for thunderstorms across the area, with the highest
chance (15%) in eastern Douglas County and eastern Lake County.
Additionally, with the relatively cold air mass in place, snow
levels are expected to remain around 5500 to 6500 feet. So,
brief light snow is possible over higher mountains in the
Cascades today and tonight.
As the upper low shifts eastward, shower activity will taper off
late Sunday morning. Then, expect partially clear skies and
warmer temperatures during the afternoon on Sunday.
Heading into early next week, the pattern supports high pressure
building into the region with some weak disturbances moving inland
Monday night through Wednesday. Overall, as heights build over
the area, expect high temperatures to trend warmer Monday into
Tuesday. Of note, lingering cold air combined with clearing skies
Monday morning will bring a risk for frost (50-100%) east of the
Cascades, especially across northern Klamath County and in
portions of Lake County. Daytime high temperatures on Monday are
forecast to reach slightly above normal. Heading into Tuesday,
model guidance and the National Blend of Models supports high
temperatures around 5 to 10 degrees above normal.
A weak trough is forecast to move into the region on Wednesday,
allowing temperatures to cool slightly (but still expect
temperatures to remain slightly above normal) and will bring a low
chance (5-10%) for drizzle or showers to the Coos and Douglas
coast.

.AVIATION...21/06Z TAFs...VFR levels are present across northern
California and southern Oregon as scattered showers move across the
area. Continuing shower activity could locally lower ceilings and
visibilities as well as obscure elevated terrain. Lighting activity
has been nonexistent this evening and gusty winds have dissipated at
area terminals.
Showers look to increase on Saturday afternoon across areas west of
and along the Cascades. Slight thunderstorm chances (10-15%) will
also be present in these areas, with single digit chances east of
the Cascades. Activity looks to decrease into Saturday evening and
beyond. -TAD

.MARINE...Updated 200 AM Saturday, June 21, 2025...Moderate west
winds and fresh swell dominated seas are expected for the outer
waters today, then migrating into the inner waters late this
afternoon through Sunday afternoon resulting in low end Small
Craft conditions. Cool, showery, unsettled weather continues
Saturday. A thermal trough returns Sunday through Monday with
north winds and steep seas likely south of Cape Blanco. Winds and
seas may trend lower Tuesday and Wednesday.
