Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Francisco CA
517 PM PDT Tue Jun 24 2025
...New AVIATION, MARINE...
.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 225 PM PDT Tue Jun 24 2025
A seasonal weather pattern will continue through midweek with a
well established marine layer along the coast. Temperatures will
continue to run near or a few degrees below normal at least
through Thursday with coastal highs in the 60s warming to the 80s
inland while nights remain cool with onshore breezes. An inland
warming trend is forecast Friday through the weekend as high
pressure builds and 90s become more common for the interior
valleys while the marine layer will keep the coast in the 60s.
&&
.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 225 PM PDT Tue Jun 24 2025
A 2000 foot marine layer and steady onshore breezes have kept a
well established marine layer in place along the coast today. The
City has seen little or no sunshine with low clouds still
covering the Berkeley hills. Downtown SF recorded its first
measurable 0.01 precip of the month this morning as drizzle
associated with the marine layer was enough to tip the bucket. No
real hot temps to speak of today with mainly 70s around the bays
and 80s inland. Even the usual hot spots of interior Monterey
county haven`t reached 90 degrees yet today.
Given the 2000 foot marine layer and 3.3 mb SFO-Sac gradient
expect an early push of stratus tonight with most areas below 2000
feet covered in low clouds by morning.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through next Monday)
Issued at 225 PM PDT Tue Jun 24 2025
The 500 mb pattern trends more zonal by around Thursday with 850
mb temps forecast to warm heading into the weekend. Onshore wind
pattern will remain in place with a likely well established
coastal marine layer. Inland highs back into the lower to mid 90s
should become more common for places like Livermore which would
be only a few degrees above normal. So a pretty typical late June
pattern remains forecast with temps ranging from 60 in SF to the
90s for the interior valleys but not expecting any triple digit
heat.
Beyond the weekend as we head towards the first week of July and
the 4th of July holiday the outlook suggests no abnormally hot
weather with monsoon moisture currently progged to stay over the
deserts of southern CA. Best forecast at this time calls for
continued seasonably warm days with cool/mild nights that would
allow the summertime coastal marine layer to remain well
established with SSTs values running in the lower 50s along the
coast.

.MARINE...
(Tonight through next Monday)
Issued at 510 PM PDT Tue Jun 24 2025
Moderate to fresh northwesterly breezes will prevail through the
remainder of the week. Frequent strong gusts are expected in the
offshore waters and in the favored coastal jet regions north of
Point Reyes, south of Pigeon Point, and south of Point Sur. Seas
will be moderate though Wednesday and build to rough by the end of
the week.
