448 AM CST Sun Dec 22 2024
...New AVIATION...
.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Monday)
Issued at 155 AM CST SUN DEC 22 2024
A very broad and strong high pressure system is centered over the
Great Lakes and expands through the Gulf of Mexico and well into
Canada. The center of the high will slide east through Monday. It
will remain elongated across the Southeast, allowing for an
easterly flow to set up. We may see an inverted trough set up due
to this easterly flow, with only some slight increase in clouds
across the east/southeast Monday afternoon.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday night through Saturday)
Issued at 347 AM CST SUN DEC 22 2024
Zonal flow will precede the arrival of a developing Plains trough
Monday night into Tuesday, and a surface ridge axis will extend
westward into Alabama beneath an upper-level confluence zone.
Light winds will contribute to radiational cooling with lows in
the upper 20s to mid 30s Tuesday morning. Airmass modification and
weak warm advection will lead to relatively mild conditions
Tuesday afternoon.
A shortwave trough ejecting into the Mississippi Valley is
expected to bring our next chance of rain on Wednesday, but
rainfall amounts may not amount to much as this system weakens.
We should experience a relative lull between weather systems on
Thursday, but the progressive pattern of fast-moving shortwaves
and isentropic lift could bring a greater potential of rain to the
region for Friday and Saturday.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 445 AM CST SUN DEC 22 2024
VFR conditions through the period. High pressure will remain
centered over the Northeast, so a light east-northeasterly wind at
4-6 kts will develop after 15z and continue through the
afternoon. Winds will go calm again by 01Z.
16
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
Afternoon minimum RHs will remain above critical thresholds,
generally bottoming out in the lower 30s for parts of central
Alabama over the next few days. 20-foot winds will be easterly
today around 5 mph, and southeasterly between 5-10 mph on Monday.
Rain-free weather continues through Tuesday before instances of
showers enter for the holidays.
