The DC measures moisture in deep organic layers of the forest floor. High values indicate very dry deep fuels prone to deep burning.

Color	Value	Category	Description
	0 – 100	Very Low	Deep fuels moist. Little drought effect on fire.
	101 – 200	Low	Some drying of deep fuels. Fire may penetrate into duff.
	201 – 350	Moderate	Significant drying. Deep burning possible. Difficult to extinguish.
	351 – 500	High	Very dry deep fuels. Deep burning and smouldering likely.
	500+	Extreme	Extreme drought. Severe deep burning. Very hard to extinguish.
