Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • Kent County
  • At 5:44 p.m. ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain.

    A line of thunderstorms is stretching from southern Grand Lake and Queens County toward Harcourt and is now moving southeastward at 20 km/hr. The line has weakened some but may still have the potential to produce rainfall amounts reaching 25mm/hr over and near the line.

    Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

    Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

    Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

    • Kent County
    • Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

      There is the risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and extending into the evening.

      Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

      Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
