9:42 AM PDT Friday 22 June 2018 Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:
B.C. North Peace River
B.C. South Peace River
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.
The airmass remains moist and unstable over the BC Interior today. Slow moving thunderstorms that develop this afternoon has the potential to give isolated rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm within one hour and produce wind gusts up to 80 km/h.
Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Hail is also possible. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
