Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 10:00 AM NST 2 February 2026 Today Tonight and Tuesday At 10:00 a.m. NST today low 966 mb located over northeastern
Laurentian Fan.
By 10:00 a.m. NST Tuesday low 974 mb located east of the Grand
Banks.


Marine Weather Statement

Issued 9:51 AM NST 2 February 2026 An intense low pressure system over Northeastern Laurentian Fan will
continue tracking northeastward to pass southeast of the Avalon
Peninsula today and lie over the Northern Grand Banks tonight.
Gale to storm force easterly to northeasterly winds are expected
north of the low, while gale to storm force westerlies to
southwesterlies are expected to its south. Winds will shift to strong
to gale force northerlies to northwesterlies in the wake of the low
today and Tuesday.

Marine interests are advised that storm warnings are in effect for
Southwest Coast, South Coast, East Coast, Funk Island Bank, and the
Grand Banks. Gale warnings are in effect for all remaining waters
except Strait of Belle Isle.

Marine interests are also advised that a freezing warning is in
effect for Belle Isle Bank.

Marine interests are further advised that high water level warnings
are in effect for Southwest Coast, South Coast - Cape St. Mary's and
east, and East Coast. Higher than normal water levels are also
expected near high tide this morning in Fortune bay and Placentia
Bay. While conditions will improve for Fortune bay later today,
large waves and pounding surf will continue to cause higher than
normal water levels along east-facing shorelines of Placentia Bay
this evening and Tuesday morning, especially near high tide.
