Marine Weather StatementIssued 3:59 AM PST 23 December 2024 A trough of low pressure southwest of the offshore regions will Move to lie north-south the Bowie this afternoon. As the trough approaches, winds over outer waters will rise to gale to storm Force southeasterlies. Strong southeast winds will develop through the inner South Coast.
This afternoon, a rapidly deepening low pressure system southwest of Explorer will move towards Queen Charlotte Sound this evening and cross Southern Hecate Strait Tuesday morning. Storm to hurricane force southeasterlies will develop ahead of this low, reaching the central and southern waters tonight. Hurricane force southwesterlies are forecast just south of the low's track and will ease to gale force westerlies as the low departs.
This deep low will bring very large waves to regions from Explorer to Southern Hecate Strait, including the Central Coast. Also, dangerous coastal high water conditions could result on shoreline areas for Northwestern Vancouver island, along the Central Coast, and near Douglas Channel.
