* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning today: Heavy snow. Snow accumulations between 1 to 2 feet above 7,000 feet and up to 3 feet at the highest peaks. 2 to 6 inches below 7,000 feet. Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Ridge wind gusts will reach up to 125 mph. For the Winter Storm Watch Sunday-Tuesday: Heavy snow with 3-8 inches below 7000 feet and 1 to 3 feet above 7000 feet. * WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area, and Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties. * WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, from 10 AM this morning to 10 PM PST Saturday. For the Winter Storm Watch, from late Sunday night through Tuesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening and Monday morning commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph. * WHERE...West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada and Western Plumas County/Lassen Park Counties. * WHEN...From 4 PM this afternoon to 4 PM PST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening and Monday morning commutes. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow levels Friday afternoon around 6000-7000 feet, lowering to around 4500-5500 feet over the weekend, before increasing to around 5000-6000 feet early next week. A brief break in snowfall expected from late Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning with lighter snow showers. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Information: Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage. |
