Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC
914 PM EDT Sun Jun 1 2025

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build into the area and remain in control
through much of the upcoming week. Another area of low pressure
may bring a front through the region towards the end of the
week into the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
A ridge of high pressure will build into the region through tonight.
Favorable conditions for radiational cooling are expected with
low Tds, no clouds, and light to no wind. This will result in
below average temperatures tonight. Low temperatures will drop
into the lower to middle 40s tonight. Many locations in the
mountains at higher elevations and in the Shenandoah Valley in
lower valleys will drop into the 30s. A Frost Advisory has been
issued for western Garrett County, western Grant County, western
Pendleton County, and western Highland County from 1am
overnight through 8am Monday morning. Frost can harm sensitive
outdoor vegetation. Please protect any sensitive vegetation as
this is on the later side of the last climo frost.

&&

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure will remain in control Monday through Tuesday
night. Dry conditions throughout the period. Plenty of sunshine
each day. Temperatures will be about 3 to 5 degrees warmer on
Monday than this afternoon. Highs will reach the lower to middle
70s widespread with cooler temperatures in the mountains. Monday
night`s low temperatures will be about 5 degrees milder than
tonight`s lows and dropping into the upper 40s to lower 50s.

While Tuesday remains dry due to high pressure, high
temperatures will be about 7 degrees warmer on average across
the region when compared to Monday`s highs. Afternoon highs will
predominantly reach the lower to middle 80s. Tuesday night`s low
temperatures will be milder than Monday night with lows in the
middle 50s to lower 60s.

&&

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Upper level ridging will be squarely overhead by Wednesday as the
surface high begins to slide off the coast. The warming trend will
continue as highs reach the mid to upper 80s, with a few 90s
possible. Dew points will also be on the rise into the upper 50s and
60s, making it feel a bit muggier. More locations may have a shot at
reaching 90 on Thursday. For some locations yet to reach 90, this
will be one of the later first occurrences in at least the past
decade.

Troughing to the northwest will slowly break down the ridge during
the second half of the week. It`s still uncertain how quickly the
forcing moves into the area, with the associated frontal zone likely
to arrive Friday or Saturday. Any shower and thunderstorm chances
will likely be limited to the northwestern parts of the forecast
area Thursday, with higher chances areawide Friday and Saturday.
Will have to keep an eye on this period for potential stronger
thunderstorms as well.

The cold front will likely be south of the area by Sunday, but how
far south will affect the chances for additional showers. While
temperatures will be lower behind the front, readings may remain a
little above normal.

&&

.AVIATION /01Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
VFR conditions expected through Tuesday night with high
pressure in control. Some high elevated smoke from Canadian
wildfires may be present off and on throughout the period.
Westerly winds this afternoon will diminish tonight and become
northwest. Winds will become light and variable Monday into
Monday night. On Tuesday, winds will become more southerly but
remain light.

VFR conditions and light south winds will prevail Wednesday through
Thursday as high pressure slides to the east. A shower or
thunderstorm could approach MRB later Thursday. There`s a little
higher chance for thunderstorms Friday but still uncertainty with
how much of the area is affected.

&&

.MARINE...
Winds will diminish tonight before becoming light and variable
through Tuesday night as high pressure gains control.

pressure off the coast. Southerly channeling along the bay Wednesday
night may approach advisory levels.
