474 FXUS65 KABQ 030001 AAB AFDABQ Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 601 PM MDT Mon Jun 2 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 540 PM MDT Mon Jun 2 2025 - Numerous to widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms moving across northern and central NM clear out this evening and overnight. While mostly beneficial, heavy rainfall will reach up to an inch or more in localized spots threaten flash flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, and recent burn scars. - Daily rounds of afternoon thunderstorms continue Tuesday and Wednesday. This activity shifts focus more solely to eastern NM Thursday, Friday, and into the weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Tuesday night) Issued at 244 PM MDT Mon Jun 2 2025 Active weather currently ongoing this afternoon across northern and central NM. Widespread showers are moving with the eastern most vortmax over the eastern plains of NM. Strong winds in the mid- levels have been mixing down to the surface producing strong gusty winds of 50 to 60 mph observed thru Curry County this afternoon. Strong wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph will continue with this area as it progresses northeastward into northeastern NM the rest of this afternoon. Single cellular thunderstorm activity is associated with the cold frontal boundary with strong gusts associated with one particular cell entering the ABQ metro area this hour from the west. Strong wind gusts and localized hail will accompany these cells as they progress eastward across the middle Rio Grande Valley. Thunderstorm activity along the front will progress into the central and northeastern highlands this evening. Will continue the Flash Flood Watch over the Hermit`s Peak/Calf Canyon burn scar for this potential of more robust convection moving over it this evening. Shower and thunderstorm activity will wane overnight as the upper low opens and crosses northern NM. A backdoor cold front swings southward through northeastern and east-central NM Tuesday morning, riding up to the east slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mts. Afternoon thunderstorm activity will favor this area Tuesday, with scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms developing over western NM. && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday through Sunday) Issued at 244 PM MDT Mon Jun 2 2025 A further westward push of low-level moisture into the Rio Grande Valley and perhaps to the Continental Divide, aided by convective outflow over eastern NM will occur Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This will aide in providing moisture for a second round of numerous to widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms favoring the northern half of the state as another closer low opens up and crosses northern NM. Thereafter, the weather pattern settles back into a more typical spring-time flow with drier southwesterly to westerly winds pushing into western NM. Eastern NM remains moist with moisture replenished by backdoor frontal boundaries or southerly return flow from the Gulf entering the area. Daily rounds of scattered afternoon thunderstorms can be expected across eastern NM Thursday and through the weekend. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 540 PM MDT Mon Jun 2 2025 Thunderstorm and shower activity is generally diminishing for areas west of the central mountain chain, but some rain may continue to fall at KFMN for the next couple of hours. Scattered storms will continue through the early evening for areas east of the central mountains, particularly in the vicinity of KLVS and KTCC. Strong and erratic gusts may be observed at KTCC as a line of thunderstorms makes its way east over the next couple of hours. KLVS is the only site forecast to go into MVFR tomorrow morning due to lower cielings. A backdoor front will push through eastern New Mexico during the early morning hours and bring some gusty northerly winds for KLVS, KSAF, KTCC, and KROW. Afternoon thunderstorms look develop once again tomorrow, favoring northern areas near KLVS. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 244 PM MDT Mon Jun 2 2025 No fire weather concerns through Wednesday as increased moisture and shower and thunderstorm activity continue to roll through the area. Drier southwesterly to westerly flow returns to western NM Thursday where elevated fire weather conditions will be present each afternoon through the weekend. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
