462 FXUS65 KREV 032017 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 117 PM PDT Tue Jun 3 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Showers and thunderstorms will be possible each afternoon in the Sierra south of Tahoe and Mineral County. * Typical warmth through midweek precedes a return of July-like temperatures and increasing HeatRisk Friday into the weekend. * Thunderstorm chances and coverage may increase Friday into the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Typical June warmth persists through midweek, characterized by daytime highs in the 70s and 80s areawide. Minimal change in the governing weather pattern maintains a daily 10-30% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the Sierra/higher terrain of Alpine and Mono County, and portions of Mineral County. Gusty outflows winds up to 50 mph, small hail, and occasional lightning will accompany mature thunderstorms each afternoon. A pattern change finally occurs at the end of this week as unseasonably strong high pressure travels from the eastern Pacific to the Intermountain West. Meanwhile, remnant low pressure will meander off the California coast most of the weekend before sweeping across the region early next week. This is will be a slow evolving pattern change, which will have a couple notable weather impacts for the region. First, temperatures will steadily climb in response to the approaching high pressure area and will yield a return of 80 and 90 degree heat Friday through the weekend. As a result, minor and moderate HeatRisk will develop this weekend in Sierra communities and lower western Nevada valleys, respectively. Be sure to practice your heat safety precautions if planning any outdoor activities this weekend. The second impact is an uptick in both thunderstorm potential and coverage is possible Friday onward, reaching a peak either Sunday or Monday. There is still much uncertainty, but the late week-to- weekend weather pattern would be favorable for greater thunderstorm coverage and impacts. -Salas && .AVIATION... There is a 10-30% chance of showers and thunderstorms near KMMH this afternoon, particularly until 02Z. Storm coverage trends down today compared to yesterday, assuming a more isolated nature. Primary impacts from any thunderstorm include gusty/erratic winds, small hail, and occasional lightning. Otherwise, VFR conditions and afternoon north breezes will prevail today. -Salas && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories... NV...None. CA...None. && $$
