Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
103 PM PDT Tue Jul 28 2026

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Isolated thunderstorm activity will be limited to Mohave County
through Wednesday, with things drying out area-wide during the
  second half of the week.

* Above-normal temperatures persist, with dangerous and
  potentially record-breaking temperatures beginning Thursday.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through Monday.

Remnant Mesoscale convective vortex continues to track northward
across the Colorado Plateau of northern Arizona this afternoon.
This feature will continue to spark renewed thunderstorm activity
that may skirt eastern Mohave County and parts of Canyon country
through the remainder of the evening hours. Similar conditions
will remain in place tomorrow for drier conditions overspread the
entire region the remainder of the week into the weekend.

As the region dries out, an expansive area of high pressure will
build westward, with a 600dm ridge building into the Southwest by
Friday and Saturday. This will result in temperatures climbing to
near record territory by late in the week, with the heat
persisting into early next week. Daily and monthly all-time
records may be challenged during this period with widespread high
to extreme heat risk expected across the lower elevations. An Extreme
Heat Warning remains for all of our valley locations from
Thursday through Sunday, with Heat Advisories for the higher
mountain zones. Indications are the the ridge will begin to break
down next week an a return of monsoonal moisture may creep back
into the region with temperatures trending closer to normal and
isolated thunderstorm chances returning.
