.DISCUSSION...
Dry, southwest flow continues across the region this week. This
is due to high pressure over the Four Corners and a long-wave
trough off the Pacific Northwest coast. High pressure will
gradually move west and strengthen Wednesday through late
Saturday. As such, afternoon temperatures will gradually trend
upward into the weekend. Well see the typical afternoon breezes
each day with gusts of 20-25 mph. We may also see smoke filter
into northern Washoe and northeast CA due to fires in ID and OR.

Latest guidance indicates a slower warming trend, with
temperatures hitting the triple digits for lower valleys now by
Thursday, leading to widespread Moderate HeatRisk. From Friday
into Sunday, temperatures between 100-105 degrees are likely (>80%
chance) in the lower elevations of Mono County, eastern Lassen
County, and for much of the inner basin and range. These
aforementioned areas will experience Major HeatRisk during this
timeframe. Other areas in western NV will also approach triple
digit heat, with 80s to low 90s for the eastern Sierra
communities. One good aspect of the upcoming heat is that due to
the dry airmass in place, well see efficient cooling at night
which will help us with heat-related concerns.

Ensembles are showing that this ridge will breakdown on Sunday
and Monday. At this time, the most this will do is a slight
decrease in temperatures, slight increase in winds, and no
precipitation. Another ridge builds back into the region by around
Tuesday, with a continuation of hot, dry weather.
