SHORT TERM...Tonight through Sunday night...An upper level ridge axis will pass to our east tonight, allowing strengthening SW flow aloft to move into the area. This will bring hot air northward, and give us near-record highs Saturday. The Heat Advisory will remain in place as issued. Temperatures will be in the upper 90s to near 100 in the lower elevations, and 80s to 90s in populated mountain areas. Only the highest peaks will have highs in the 60s. A weak short wave (speed max) will move by to the north Saturday night, sending a dry cold (cool?) front southeast across us. This will result in gusty NW winds and a notable decrease in temperatures Sunday and Sunday night. A stronger upper level trough will approach Sunday and move through Sunday night, bringing another cold front. It will also increase instability and provide for a chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday night, mainly across the far south in Idaho, although isolated mountain showers/storms cannot be ruled out. LONG TERM...Monday through Friday...A broad upper-level trough and split flow are the story points in the extended. Embedded shortwave troughs and cut-off low pressure systems will weave their way either south or northeast of the area. NW flow aloft is forecast to persist throughout the extended, keeping near-normal temperatures and dry conditions. On Monday afternoon and evening, wind gusts upwards of 35 mph are likely (60-90% chance) to move through the Snake Plain. Mid-week on, a slight trend upwards in max temperatures is forecast. && .BOI WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... ID...Heat Advisory from noon to 7 PM MDT Saturday IDZ012-014-016-033.
