.KEY MESSAGES...

* Temperatures will continue to warm through the first half of the
week as a ridge of high pressure pushes into the region. Extreme
heat products may be needed for portions of the area by mid-week.

.DISCUSSION...through next week.

High-pressure ridging will continue to push into the area from the
southeast through the weekend and into the first part of the week.
Temperatures will continue to warm an average of 1 to 2 degrees each
day as 500mb heights build to around 597dm by Wednesday. The latest
NBM guidance has trended a bit warmer, and as a result, areas of
major Heat Risk are now appearing across the lower Colorado River
and central and southern Mohave County. If current trends continue,
Extreme Heat products may be needed for Wednesday. Any extreme heat
is expected to be short-lived, as heights are expected to begin
falling by Thursday as a shortwave trough moves into the Great
Basin. There is a fair amount of uncertainty regarding the strength
of the wave, but it should allow temperatures to cool by a few
degrees by the end of the week. The cool-off will be short-lived,
and another ridge will build into the desert southwest next weekend,
and the strength and position of this ridge will determine how much
temperatures can rebound.
